7 Ways To Bring More Mindfulness Into Your Life Today | Mindful | Scoop.it

"Mindfulness is simply a shift in the way we’re paying attention to our lives. It means that instead of drifting through the day on auto-pilot, we’re fully inhabiting, and fully awake to, each moment of our life as it unfolds."

What begins to happen, without any intention for it to happen, is the 20 minutes becomes 45 minutes and an hour. We become present with the person we are and the world we live in through meditation in any form. What would happen if teachers and students meditated in classrooms. We spent about 15 minutes each day after lunch in what we called a 'conversation circle' for several years before I retired. Many days, we just sat and did not say anything. Regardless, the afternoons were far more focused.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, March 15, 2014 1:57 PM

When we understand mindfulness and meditative practices as strictly instrumental, it is fair to be skeptical. When we see meditation as the practice ground for living life, the two become inseparable. There is a validity in the idea that mindfulness and its practices can become the next fad. That is a real concern. It does not mean that we cannot use it to be better and make the world a better place by being more aware of who we are and what we do.

Are You Mindful or Mindless?

Are You Mindful or Mindless? | Mindful | Scoop.it
Mindfulness is making its way into corporate culture as a term, but here's how to make it a reality for yourself. Learn to slow down, think more clearly, and unleash your creativity.

"Shakespeare’s Hamlet famously said that there is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so."

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, March 21, 2014 1:45 PM

If we are simply keeping up at best, we are likely not operating mindfully. There is a need to slow down, be present, and focus on the people and things in our presence at each particular moment. This is not about financial bottom lines, but, when we are mindful, those are more likely improved as well.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, March 20, 2014 1:01 PM

It is the little things that make mindfulness. The first point on the list is about wishing others well. It is more than a rote thing. When we are mindful, wishing someone well is a deeply felt and received gesture.
