There's No Way Around It, Mindfulness Practice Takes Work

There's No Way Around It, Mindfulness Practice Takes Work | Mindful | Scoop.it
Misconceptions surround the practice of mindfulness, which is part meditation and part a greater awareness of the things around you.

"it takes time and sustained practice to experience the benefits.”

craig daniels's insight:

It's a very old saying, "nothing worth learning is easy."  Mindfulness is worth learning and yes it takes time and persistence if you hope to understand it and become adept at the practice of mindfulness.

Don't let my sobering comments scare you off from putting your toe in the water of taking up a mindfulness practice. The practice of mindfulness is well within your grasp, it just is not easy. Would you want it to be any other way?

I believe in it. My practice is flawed, but, what there is, provides sustenance and energy to move forward refreshed or more refreshed.

Maintaining the integrity of mindfulness

Maintaining the integrity of mindfulness | Mindful | Scoop.it
Well, it’s official. With the publication of the TIME cover story on “The Mindful Revolution” –which by the way is mostly accurate, well researched, and unstintingly positive—mindfulness has entere...

"The conditioned mind is far too strong and will seduce you back again and again into habitual patterns of thinking and reacting unless you cultivate the ability to stay present from moment to moment."

craig daniels's insight:

Practicing mindfulness may seem a simple task and at its heart it is. Mindfulness is about paying attention but it has an equal counterforce called distraction that won't go away without us putting in some real work.

I love how the author says: "Concentrating on a project at work or entering the zone in a sport isn’t necessarily mindfulness if it’s merely a form of conventional attention."

With the increasing awareness of mindfulness in our culture, I think we can expect the kinds of misconceptions that Bodian writes about in this piece to become widespread. An important part of my work is clearing up those misconceptions about what mindfulness is and what it can and can't do.

Practicing Mindful Leadership

Practicing Mindful Leadership | Mindful | Scoop.it
Mindfulness is being taught and practiced in a growing number of organizations worldwide in the effort to improve personal and professional effectiveness and overall organizational productivity.

"Some of these qualities can be referred to as "states of being." Consider, for example, the states of being relaxed, alert, curious, close minded, open minded, negative, positive, or self-confident. These states of being are attained by having experiences and by discussing the experiences of others who have attained them."

craig daniels's insight:

Little by little businesses and schools are swinging over to the mindfulness side of the equation and seeing the benefits in all areas of their organizations.

Mindfulness is not just about stress reduction, though it certainly has a huge role in helping people move into a more relaxed way of life. Mindfulness help users focus and get more done in all aspects of their work and home lives, it certainly has been shown to be one of the most cost effective offerings a company or school can offer.

Mindfulness: Don't Go To Work Without IT

Mindfulness: Don't Go To Work Without IT | Mindful | Scoop.it

"Awareness and mindfulness are not ideals to be practiced in our personal life and then checked at the door when we show up to work. They’re concepts that should permeate our existence, day in and day out, fundamentally shifting the way we interact with the world (our customers, technology, and other departments) around us to make those interactions richer, purposeful, and more productive."

craig daniels's insight:

Many of us have a growing mindfulness practice, yet when we home we often leave our practice as well. In this post Erin Avery enthusiastically writes about why awareness and mindfulness at work is such a good idea.
