Want To Expand Time? Try Mindfulness

Want To Expand Time? Try Mindfulness | Mindful | Scoop.it
A new study suggests that just 10 minutes of mindfulness meditation changes our experience of time.
craig daniels's insight:

Wow! Just think how great it would be if we could expand the time available to us, at the moment we can't, but we can focus our perception of time.

One of the best effects of mindfulness is how we learn to pay attention to what we are doing better and external distractions fade into the background.

A simple mindfulness practice will make us more efficient, that's a real good thing.

Mindfulness increases our creativity and productivity...

Maria Teresa Frezet terapeuta olistica's curator insight, August 2, 2013 8:04 AM

Just Observing: No With Questioning - No Without Questioning - Mindfulness

Just Observing: No With Questioning - No Without Questioning - Mindfulness | Mindful | Scoop.it
'An unfortunate aspect of our mental life is how unscientific it is.

"The amateur scientist believes that he knows what he is looking for and with evidence he can confirm his hunch. The sagacious scientist, in contrast, frequently abandons his inklings and partialities, knowing that after a certain point observation and luck will be his closest allies.  "

craig daniels's insight:

Lots of different words collide in our minds to crate stories and concept that fit with how we think the world is or should be. Here's a question, what if we put down our thought paint brush and looked at what is starkly appearing in front of us?

No questions to add heft to our beliefs.Viewing what is happening right here, right now. No with questions & no without questions. Hands free so to speak, holding on to nothing. It may sound all a bit much but with a little practice mindfulness can reveal reality. What else but this moment can we dwell in?

In this post Sam McNermey lays out a clear understanding of why mindfulness is so inviting.

How does mindfulness improve self-control?

How does mindfulness improve self-control? | Mindful | Scoop.it

"In this model, mindfulness is defined as a moment-by-moment observing of impermanence, suffering, and not-self. In other words, mindfulness involves noticing the impermanence of sensations and feeling tones, the suffering caused by habitual desire or aversion, and the idea that none of the sensations, desires, or aversions create the self. Thus observing can break the chain of thought, the habit, and eventually, the suffering."

craig daniels's insight:

Have you ever wondered where your suffering comes from? Ever wondered why fear and anxiety just seem to come out of the blue?

10 Things To-Do When You Unplug (with images, tweets & vines)

Try something new or something you haven't done in a long while. Unplugging will help you discover some things you may have forgotten about. And unplugging surely will open up whole new avenues to you.
craig daniels's insight:

I've yet to meet anyone who told me their life seemed to have more time in it than it used to have. Generally people talk about how they have less time and never seem to finish what they have to do within the time they do have.

Spending time on the internet offers an amazing array of tools and information to help you get things done easier and with more efficiently but, often when you look up from the computer monitor or from your smartphone the day has slipped away.

We all need to strike a balance between being online and being unplugged from the net. Unplugging doesn't have to be a draconian act where we experience withdrawals. Unplugging can be as simple as getting up from the desk and stepping outside for 10 minutes or maybe having lunch with friends with a no cell phone or tablet rule.

Check out the 10 things to do and for an ongoing info on unplugging check out www.iunplug.com anytime or if the irony is too great just read a book.
