7 Apps to remind you to be mindful | Mindful | Scoop.it
For an entrepreneur, fighting one crisis after another becomes a habit, which could limit his ability to think creatively. Mindfulness is an answer.
craig daniels's insight:

I have to wonder just how helpful it is to have your phone beep to remind you to be mindful. Is this one more distraction?

"The simple act of being mindful has the power to change everything—how we approach ourselves, our challenges, our relationships, and our communities.

Mindfulness is available to us because we already have the capacity to be present, and it doesn’t require us to change who we are. It takes many shapes and goes by many names: attention, awareness, empathy, compassion, being in the zone, situational awareness, presence, flow, contemplation, and many more."

craig daniels's insight:

A quandary if there ever was one. On the one hand mindfulness is simple because all you have to do is pay attention and on the other hand it's difficult because you have to pay attention... Spend a moment thinking about that..

The only enemy of mindful living is distraction and all that entails. But to paraphrase the little pig, "who's afraid of the big bad distraction?"

"The conditioned mind is far too strong and will seduce you back again and again into habitual patterns of thinking and reacting unless you cultivate the ability to stay present from moment to moment."

craig daniels's insight:

Practicing mindfulness may seem a simple task and at its heart it is. Mindfulness is about paying attention but it has an equal counterforce called distraction that won't go away without us putting in some real work.

I love how the author says: "Concentrating on a project at work or entering the zone in a sport isn’t necessarily mindfulness if it’s merely a form of conventional attention."

With the increasing awareness of mindfulness in our culture, I think we can expect the kinds of misconceptions that Bodian writes about in this piece to become widespread. An important part of my work is clearing up those misconceptions about what mindfulness is and what it can and can't do.
