America's Littlest Black Ops Whirlybird Is Armed to the Teeth

America's Littlest Black Ops Whirlybird Is Armed to the Teeth | MilPolSec | Scoop.it
Operation Eagle Claw was supposed to free 52 diplomats held during the Iran Hostage Crisis. Its failure not only shamed President Carter's administration and paved the way for Reagan's successful 1980 presidential run, it also instigated the formation of the Army's Special Operations Command, and the development of this petite powerhouse: the MH-6 Little Bird.

Why the Military Is Pinning Its Hopes on Google's Modular Phone | MilPolSec | Scoop.it
In the small red brick headquarters, Vanderbilt's Institute for Software Integration Systems (ISIS) is working on a revolution in smartphone technology. It's not better screens, or battery life, or anything for a major carrier. It's a puzzle-piece phone that will (hopefully) change the way the military communicates.

These A-10 Warthogs look like perfect miniatures but they are real | MilPolSec | Scoop.it
These A-10 Warthogs have to be models shot against a gradient background, right? Wrong, apparently. It's an official US Air Force photo straight from their Flickr account, taken by Senior Airman Sierra Dopfel with a crappy Canon PowerShot ELPH 130 IS, according to the EXIF data.

The designer of the F-16 explains why the F-35 is such a crappy plane

The designer of the F-16 explains why the F-35 is such a crappy plane | MilPolSec | Scoop.it
According to the Pierre Sprey, co-designer of the F-16, the F35 is a turkey. Inherently, a terrible airplane. An airplane built for a dumb idea. A kludge that will fail time and time again. Just impossibly hopeless. And judging from the bajillion times the F-35 fleet has been grounded, well, he's probably not wrong. It's a trillion dollar failure. Watch Sprey eviscerate the F-35 in the video below.

Why No One Used Camouflage Until WWI

Why No One Used Camouflage Until WWI | MilPolSec | Scoop.it
The general idea behind visual camouflage, which is to make distinctive, recognizable shapes difficult to pick out against a background, was nothing new in 1914. The point of camouflage isn't necessarily to make oneself totally invisible, which isn't practical for a large army.
