"I came to recognize that I was most satisfied with my work life when I was part of a small team, overcoming some ridiculous constraints (time, space, or the like) to produce something new and valuable. And if those were my true motivators, then corporate America was not likely to be the best place for me. I had worked in smaller companies before, and realized that was where I should be."

Kred - Measurable Influence! Just missed the top 1% of global influencers.... | MILE HIGH Social Media | Scoop.it

A great new way to measure your Influence and Outreach. Founders say "We all have Kred Somewhere!"

"On November 11, 2011, we generated a report on the scores of people who have Kred Influence greater than 200. We then divided everyone into ‘bands’ bounded by Influence scores of 50 [(201-250, 251-300... 951-1,000)] to build a distribution chart.

About 42% of users in the analyzed group have Kred Influence scores between 201 and 450, 37% between 451 and 600, and the top 21% of users have scores above 600. Less than 0.1% of accounts studied have Kred over 800. Note that this chart is for Global Kred, meaning for a user’s Influence across all of Twitter. Scores and distributions within interest-based Communities may vary."

It is interesting that their influence distribution score report was created on November 11, 2011. 11-11-11. May be a coincidence but that is a powerful set of numbers and so I the Kred scoring methods from what I can see.  I finally feel that I have a score that is relevant to my social media driven profile and give KUDOS to the founders of Kred and to my friend, Peter at Marketing 8 in the UK for sharing videos on Kred and getting me to try it out! Thank Q.

The Rise of Developeronomics - for the "software-eaten" world!

The Rise of Developeronomics - for the "software-eaten" world! | MILE HIGH Social Media | Scoop.it

This blog at Forbes by Venkatesh Rao is a must read for all creatives who love technology including programmers, online marketing, investors, start up visionaries and social media types...

"There is a theory in evolutionary biology that reciprocal altruism and cooperation first appeared as a solution to the food storage problem."

The author of this blog also wrote a book called Tempo which focuses on the "art of decision making" --a crucial factor in writing code, creating content, starting a company or building relationships through social media.

Venkatesh Rao writes in the introduction of this book about the complexity of decison making  - "the answer began to emerge from research I was involved in at the time, on command and control" where he stumbled across the idea that one must control the tempo of miliary engagement"

(...which reminds me of my favorite sport - Fencing and the pacing of that sport...)

Enjoy -- excellent writing!

Apply this to Social Media and think deeply about what #sopa is really about... The four "laws of media" ... any new medium (1) extends or intensifies something, (2) renders something obsolete, (3) retrieves or brings back something, and (4) transcends itself or "flips into" something new.

Tech Companies Not Taking a Stand on Censorship Are ANTI SOCIAL

Tech Companies Not Taking a Stand on Censorship Are ANTI SOCIAL | MILE HIGH Social Media | Scoop.it

"Since a large group of tech companies protested the Stop Internet Piracy Act (SOPA) in conjunction with the House's first hearing on SOPA last week, civil rights advocates have been rooting out the pro-SOPA traitors."

And so they should for the people, for which the internets ultimatly serves, deserve to know who is being  --ANTI SOCIAL!

One really needs to take a deep breathe and stand back to see the big picture on this issue as it goes deep into the philosophies of art and media and what it means to be human....yes, all the things we have heard from all the social media gurus who have been tweeting and posting for the past 3 years....

The bottem line is not $$$ for corps but a new way to communicate for people -- that will not be stopped by governments, big corps, old media or old software giants....this movement to connect and SHARE information and knowledge worldwide is unstopabble and has created the greatest shift in human consiouness since the invention of the printing press and the beginning of the Gutenbergy galaxy.

WE live in an electronic environment and unless all electricity stops flowing we are going to evolve to a more human state of being and sharing and connecting!

Is there a Social Media God? - more on the Klout score debacle... | MILE HIGH Social Media | Scoop.it

"Social Media God loves everyone, not just influencers" So true. Not only that this whole idea that your fate is determined by either your credit score or your Klout score is absurb. Great artists, creators, inventors, visualizers, entrepreneurs NEVER get good marks - some up to and even after DEATH. Check out Van Gogh for example! A big ZERO during his life--- but don't you wish you owned one today! LOL.

#8 Success and Popularity Accessiblity

(aka 15 minutes of FAME a la Warhol)

" By that, I mean the ability of a Joe Nobody to come from nowhere and suddenly gain recognition and become a well known someone. The internet has been continually leveling the playing field so that you don’t need million in capital or marketing to get your ideas, creations and business into the spotlight.

10 year-olds are making thousands off their viral YouTube videos. Anyone with a business idea can start a website and get going for little to no capital. Even Twitter (which I am not a big fan of) can launch people into the spotlight if they can work the system in the right way."

How I Fail to Succeed over and over again!

How I Fail to Succeed over and over again! | MILE HIGH Social Media | Scoop.it

This is a great article on so many levels but the one part really makes me think...is the bit about "Using benchmarks to cope with Rejection" really resonates with me as I am a fencer and know what it is to fail FAST!

"Think about it from a sports perspective. If you are a Double-A ball player, you have a benchmark you should be hitting against. If you are hitting .300, you are doing really well (even though you are failing 70% of the time). That’s because everyone’s stats are public so you have a good idea of what is good and what is not good. If you are hitting .250, it probably means you need to work on your swing. But if you are hitting .450, it does not mean you are amazing ... it means you need to start playing against better competition and move to Triple-A. By being successful 45% of the time, you are, in fact, succeeding too often."

My rejection score is right on, I have been holding a consistent 25% for decades now.... my question is how does, say the KLOUT score "benchmark" line up with this analysis? I remember when I launched my FB brand page and my Klout was 16. I got screenshot and added it to my side logo..it is still there today

https://www.facebook.com/ThankQSocialMedia

even through my Klout went up to a high of 57 then fell in a heartbeat to 39 I knew after the recent reset I knew that I was not that GOOD, I mean Bad, lol and so in honor to my failure rate I have created my permanent FLOUT to read 25% as this give me a true reading of my failure to success RATIO!

From The Editor: The Creative Economy | Fast Company

From The Editor: The Creative Economy | Fast Company | MILE HIGH Social Media | Scoop.it

Ironically I started my Wordpress blog in Toronto writing alot about Richard Florida's concept of the Creative Economy and the Creative Class. After the crash of 2008 no one wanted to talk about this idea ---in fact there was a great deal of backlash and bashing of the idea of the creative economy --- as artists argued that they were still not begin paid for work done or given opps to do creative work when it came to day to day business. While I appreaciate this article from the Editor of Fast Company with respect to the two economies in American he really needs to consider this paragraph of his carefully --- as it is a perfect example of how the creative artists, freelancers and entrepreneurs are still feeling that they are being exluded from the "second economy"

"Nowhere is this second economy more ascendant than in an emerging ecosystem we call Co.Create Nation--a triangle of new thinking centered around the tech world of Silicon Valley, the entertainment world of Hollywood, and the marketing world of Madison Avenue. There was a time when the lines between industries were firmly demarcated; those days are ending." Editor, Fast Co.

The biggest irony with this passage lies in the fact that it is Hollywood, Old Media and their agengies aka Madison avenue who are fighting to get the Stop Internet Piracy Act....through --- which would in effect put social networks and their basic premise - the sharing of content, at risk as these big players clamp down on what they percive to be IP infringements...

To view my take on the matter check out my recent animation on You Tube...
