The Third Act – a self-organising, self-managing organisation - Enlivening Edge

The Third Act – a self-organising, self-managing organisation - Enlivening Edge | MidMarket Place | Scoop.it
By Edward Kelly for Enlivening Edge There is an emerging purpose at the heart of The Third Act organisation to both educate people about the impact of human longevity as well as to help them transition from the Second to Third Act in life. This new Third Act arises because of human longevity. We are now living 25-30 years longer than our great-grandparents, the equivalent of a whole new adult lifetime. Many are now referring to this as the new third age or Third Act in life. There is quite a difference though. “Everyone who lives long enough will have a third age;

The Classic Change Commitment Curve, Daryl Conner's 8 Stages | Change Thinking | MidMarket Place | Scoop.it

Many imitators, one original (from the 80's.)

Daryl Conner's Change Commitment Curve has been copied in many places.  This post clarifies the orgins of this classic, and often copied, with a word tweak or two, model.

Another rendition of it is listed in this recent blog post focused on managing resistance via Daryl Conner's 1993 book:  Managing at the Speed of Change.

Daryl's research from long ago spotted consistent patterns.  His model highlights a fairly predictable path organization members must travel when managing their own anxiety around change.

This path typically moves along the timeline:

Uniformed Optimism (blissful ignorance)Informed Pessimism (informed anguish)Checking outOvert (public)Covert (private)Hopeful Realism (coming to terms)Informed Optimism (realistic support)Completion

What is resilience?

What is resilience? | MidMarket Place | Scoop.it
Over the past decades, few concepts have gained such prominence as resilience. There has been an explosion of research and policies into ways to promote resilient systems, but the content has often lacked a clear definition of what resilience actually means, let alone how to apply resilience thinking.

Planetary boundaries
One of the most significant attempts to provide scientific guidelines for improved stewardship of the planet is the planetary boundaries concept. It was first presented in 2009 by a group of 28 renowned international scientists. They argued that if humanity stays within these nine boundaries we can continue to develop and thrive for generations to come. Crossing them could generate abrupt or irreversible environmental changes. In 2015, an updated version was presented. The new study warned that four of nine planetary boundaries have been crossed as a result of human activity: climate change, loss of biosphere integrity, land-system change, altered biogeochemical cycles (phosphorus and nitrogen).Two of these, climate change and biosphere integrity, are what the scientists call "core boundaries". Significantly altering either of these "core boundaries" would drive the Earth System into a new state.
The concept has been criticized for not being well adapted to policy although it was first and foremost designed to advance Earth System science. However, it can be used as a framework to guide the formulation of new Sustainable Development Goals, which are to replace the Millennium Development Goals after 2015.  Read more: click image or title.

Cooperation for the Network Era

Cooperation for the Network Era | MidMarket Place | Scoop.it

Cooperation makes more sense as the term to describe working together in a networked and non-directed relationship. This is an important distinction from collaboration. For example, Jérôme Delacroix also sees cooperation as the suitable term for what we do in networks [in French]. Jérôme explains why his site is called Cooperatique and not Collaboratique – collaboration happens around some kind of plan or structure, while cooperation presumes the freedom of individuals to join and participate. He also says that cooperation, not collaboration, is a driver of creativity. It is difficult to be creative while collaborating, because the objective has already been established.
