The 20 Habits of Eventual Millionaires — Life Learning — Medium

The 20 Habits of Eventual Millionaires - Life Learning - Medium
This is the wrong question. It’s upside down.

This is a tacky question. This is sort of a rude question.

Actually, the question was a bit worse. It was “I’m in my 20s — can someone in their 40s tell me what I need to do to become a financial success?”

Maybe don’t look for shortcuts. Too many shortcuts is “death by a thousand cuts”.

Here’s a question: I’m in my 40s, can someone in their 20s tell me how to restore that feeling of lightness, no obligations and the feeling that “Enough” is a Feast?

Answer me that.

Here’s a question: I’m in my 20s, can someone tell me what success is?

Here’s another question: I’m lonely, can someone tell me how a ray of sunlight can remember that by itself it is nothing, but together it’s the Sun?

But ok. Another friend of mine wrote a good post on this topic. But I know him and how he made his millions and although his answer was good, it wasn’t how he made his money.

Money is not everything. It’s a side effect. It’s a byproduct. It’s nuclear waste after all the energy has already powered the Earth.

Focus just on the habits. Only the first half of the question.

Everyone needs different habits. If someone has an arm amputated he needs a new arm. Another person might need a new eye.

Another person needs to listen better.

20 Habits...    Read More: click image or title.

Ultimate Guide To Creating A Great News Page via @mkramer

64 Ways To Think About a News Homepage - TheLi.st @ Medium - Medium

This has to be the most comprehensive, well thought out post we've ever seen on creating a news page. They focus on "news homepage", but the lessons apply well to a page every website needs - News.

News is becoming increasingly important. We are drowning in information, but your ability to filter, curate and share what is really important builds following, increases traffic and shares. News pages need to be constructed in particular ways to as the post points out.

Build in some Feedly, Twitter widgets or Buzz Sumo (or other ways to make the page ping automatically. Don't go 100% feeds since that opts out of the principal benefit - showing your ability to filter, curate and influence by what you choose.

Best curator at exposing his filter preferences and building substantial following I know is Brian Yanish at Marketing Hits (@Marketinghits).

Create a great news page, have some of it fire with a robot and curate the rest and your following, traffic and return will grow.

Terry Yelmene's curator insight, August 16, 2015 11:50 AM

A pretty well-reasoned, fundamental thought process for most knowledge work research.  This serves as an even better backward (there-to-here) model to guide the core research workflow process automation  a knowledge worker may want to devise, install.  Think work product-informed -> DevonThink structures -> DevonAgent w/'Active Filtered' automated searches.  The most important drivers here are - 'ethical' - (more than just multiple sources, a stage needs to be added at the work product stage to provide authenticity) and - 'bias' -  (a post automated search,  subsequent manual search for corroborating items selection to provide authority).

There are five key dynamics that set successful teams apart from other teams at Google:

  1. Psychological safety: Can we take risks on this team without feeling insecure or embarrassed?
  2. Dependability: Can we count on each other to do high quality work on time?
  3. Structure & clarity: Are goals, roles, and execution plans on our team clear?
  4. Meaning of work: Are we working on something that is personally important for each of us?
  5. Impact of work: Do we fundamentally believe that the work we’re doing matters?

Real Economy Lab is a new initiative aimed at building coherence for the global movement to an equitable and regenerative economics of the future using collective intelligence to ensure the impact of the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
Our first, and current task is to create a mind-map of the international new economy ecosystem. We are currently undertaking a survey of hundreds of ‘tribes’ around the world who are part of that new economy ecosystem. The survey will seek to understand how groups and organisations carrying out these efforts can be mapped, what their connections are, what matters to their work and how they trying to achieve their aims.
The aim of the lab is to build a participatory platform which provides a unifying picture of the projects, ideas, movements and networks offering viable alternatives to the faltering status quo, and to present this as a compelling case for wider strategic collaboration, coordination and support by all stakeholders.

Insight to action, one without the other is either useless or destructive (Gretchen Pisano).

Serendipity as this post comes on our final day of MACPA's Leadership Academy where we are teaching leadership of ideas and people, insight to action.

Brian nails it in several areas...

"While we want to encourage ideas, equally we must foster a culture of empowerment where people are inspired and duly recompensed for bringing ideas to life.

Ideas represents the DNA of change. Without diligence, pursuit and nurturing, they are not change alone. Indeed, ideas represent possibilities for alternate futures. But most of the time, ideas are a commodity. Like opinions, everyone has them."

Like Brian Solis we see ideation and creativity as essential leadership skills in an age of transient competitive advantage. We would add the need for context (hindsight, foresight, and insight) and the skills of facilitation and mobilizing consensus to engage the people who will ultimately take those ideas, shape them, and execute them.

We put this into a strategic thinking framework we call i2a: Insight to Action which covers five steps: Sight, Insight, Create, Communicate, and Inspire and includes collaboration and co-creation at every step as people need to weigh-in in order to buy-in.

"Management breeds mediocrity. Creativity illuminates ideation. Leadership inspires innovation. Innovation elevates change and opportunity."
