Special Olympics has long been an organization that aims to level the athletic playing field for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Now, the organization is working to make that playing field accessible for people of all abilities. Unified sports teams, which consist of an equal number of individuals with and without disabilities, is just one of the facets of Project UNIFY, an education and sports-based strategy designed to increase athletic and leadership opportunities for students with and without disabilities. The project relies on youth of all abilities to lead the discussion on creating community acceptance for everyone.
