William the Conqueror

Maddie Pelczar's insight:

William the Conqueror wrote the Domesday Book to help people get tax systems. Information in the Domesday Book helped William and later English monarchs build an efficient system of tax collection. William's successors also created the royal exchequer, or treasury, to collect taxes, fees, fines, and other dues. The Domesday Book listed every castle, field, and pigpen in England.

Notre-Dame de Paris

Maddie Pelczar's insight:

Notre-Dame de Paris is French for "Our Lady of Paris" and is also known as Notre-Dame Cathedral or simply Notre-Dame.The naturalism of its sculptures and stained glass are in contrast with earlier Romanesque architecture. In the 1790s, Notre-Dame suffered desecration during the radical phase of the French Revolution when much of its religious imagery was damaged or destroyed. In 1239, The Crown of Thorns is placed in the cathedral by St. Louis during the construction of the Sainte-Chapelle.
