Over the past two decades, there has been little government, foundation, or private funding for the development of or research into K-12 online learning in Canada. Moreover, there has been little activity in Canadian higher education towards the research of K-12 online learning. This has limited the focus and scope of education research into K-12 online learning. As such, K-12 online learning has continued to develop across Canada quietly, and with little dissemination outside of the country and between individual provinces.
The State of the Nation: K-12 Online Learning in Canada study has attempted to address this gap by examining of the regulation and activity of K-12 distance education in Canada.

What exactly is a “hybrid course”? Is it the same as a “blended course”? Why do institutions and teachers decide to use a hybrid delivery, and why do students take such courses? In this session we’ll explore the what, where, when, and why of hybrid courses. Using the experience of BC educators, we’ll also hope to find out who’s working with hybrid approaches and benefit from their experience of what’s working and what’s challenging about being a hybrid. This session will be of interest to educators who have no experience with hybrid approaches; for educators who know a bit but need some hints on how to get started; and for experienced hybrid educators who are willing to share their secrets.
