Student Engagement and Assessment | LectureTools

Student Engagement and Assessment | LectureTools | Educational Technology at Michener | Scoop.it
LectureTools is an interactive, web-based student response, note-taking and inquiry tool that improves student attentiveness and engagement in lecture
Jason Verbovszky's insight:

Lecture Tools is an application that I saw demo'd at an Ed Tech conference last year and is a tool that we could see great benefit in lectures at Michener.  It makes lectures a lot more interactive, giving instant feedback to the professor during a lecture that includes comprehension of topics using tools like polling, flagging certain slides, pinpoints on an image, etc.

This is a tool that Beth Officer will help us test this summer.  Please let me know if anyone else is interested.

"It is time to hear from students!

Ann Michaelsen, a High School English teacher from Oslo, Norway did precisely that. She gave her students a voice, the time to research, write and platform to share THEIR perspective. What does it mean to be a connected learner as a student?"

Via John Evans

Ken Robinson says schools kill creativity | Video on TED.com

Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining and profoundly moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity.
Jason Verbovszky's insight:

If you haven't seen this video of Ken Robinson on TED yet, I would highly suggest you watch it.  Ken talks about education and how it counteracts and pretty much strips students of creativity as they move through the lower grades.

Ken will also be a keynote speaker at this year's Educause Conference (http://www.educause.edu/annual-conference) in Anaheim California.
