White Paper - Patient Engagement Technology: Delivering Real Value to Hospitals and a Real Difference to Patients

White Paper - Patient Engagement Technology: Delivering Real Value to Hospitals and a Real Difference to Patients | mHealth: Patient Centered Care-Clinical Tools-Targeting Chronic Diseases | Scoop.it
Lincor Solutions is the leading provider of digital point of care service delivery. Our secure, robust and specifically engineered technology improves patient outcomes, increases efficiencies and reduces costs by delivering clinical applications, administrative functionality, communications, patient education and entertainment services, direct to the bedside.
ET Russell's insight:

Executive Summary:

Across every industry, electronic engagement tools help enhance the customer experience, create efficiency and deliver business value. The same is true in healthcare, where hospitals can improve clinical quality, patient satisfaction and care efficiency through digital patient engagement.

However, even in the U.S. — widely regarded as leaders in the adoption of healthcare computing — only about one-fifth of all hospitals have adopted electronic patient engagement technology, with many countries at a far lower level of penetration than this. i

The U.S. has seen more research in this area than any other country, and so this document uses much of this large body of evidence, to provide an evidence-based analysis of the total value creation — or return on investment — through cost avoidance, revenue generation and quality improvement, for hospitals that implement interactive patient engagement technology capable of delivering education, health information, communication tools and entertainment content, all at the bedside.

Demanding mHealth security in the cloud

While proving their value, mHealth devices and applications cause stress for health IT teams because of these security issues and the HIPAA non-compliance threat they pose

With so many care providers using mobile devices at the point of care and with so many patients using the web for aspects of their medical care, there are an awful lot of mobile devices floating around that have access to confidential patient information.

That's a recipe for disaster.

“The hospital marketing strategy now needs to take into account preventative, acute care and post acute organizations, because as an industry, we are now responsible for the full continuum of clinical care,”

Patient Centered Care: The NEW “4 P’s” of Marketing for Non-Profits – Purpose (mobile APP) | mHealth: Patient Centered Care-Clinical Tools-Targeting Chronic Diseases | Scoop.it

The NEW “4 P’s” of Marketing for Non-Profits: Purpose, Presence, Proximity, and Partnerships.

Let’s start with the heart and soul of every Non-Profit organization

      – What is its “Purpose”?  Why does your organization exist?

When you visit the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto’s website you will find they have done a nice job of tackling the five major goals and target audiences associated with running a hospital.  However, the launch of the Sick Kids “Pain Squad” app is truly extraordinary.

ET Russell's insight:

Working in healthcare, I believe the 4 Ps are so applicable and being reminded about the 'heart and soul' is refreshing.

What is our purpose (responsibility) as an organisation, in my role within healthcare, but also what is the purpose (responsibility) of our consumers, patients and the community?

Hospitals can use social media to leverage education and news events to reach current and future patients and provide a valuable service.
ET Russell's insight:

This article may be a little bit old since it was originally published. But the message I believe is still so very relevant.

Whether we are in the health arena or other. There are never ending opportunities to promote health messages and develop the health literacy of our communities.

It is about leveraging of events, circumstances, people stories (maybe a celebrity being admitted to your hospital), looking beyond the incident and leveraging off it to reach to the community with a health message.

the problem

Patients don’t take their medications as prescribed for a variety of reasons: the pills are too expensive, they have unwanted side-effects, they forget due to advanced age or other factors, or they’re just not sure about the instructions.  While ideally, patients who are confused or experiencing side-effects would discuss the matter with their provider, that doesn’t always happen.  It’s a gap in care that holistic, patient-centered accountable care is trying to bridge, and mHealth is increasingly becoming an easy way to do

The key challenge for hospitals is how to use mhealth to manage chronic diseases

The answer:

mHealth solutions can influence patient behaviour to improve lifestyles : through education, awareness and by supporting citizens in making lives healthier, mHealth can potentially help reduce the incidence of diseases.mHealth solutions enable chronic disease remote management through mobile-based communications technologies that support patient mobility and reduce the need to visit hospitals.mHealth solutions enhance clinical decision-making and may optimize the use of physical and human healthcare resources by providing the system and staff with more information and tools for better analysis.

185 million patients across Europe can potentially benefit from mHealth. 98% of them can potentially  improve their lifestyles and their overall health.
