Gamification and Education

Gamification and Education | MFL 2.0 | Scoop.it

Gamification represents a natural progression of learning from the industrialized, mass production model of education that trained students to be identical drones responding to bells and whistles, to an individualized, contextualized model of learning that pushes students to be innovative individuals confident in their ability to problem solve and think outside of the box.

"I received a message from the good people from @dragonfly_edu yesterday, praising how I used an iPod shuffle in Spanish. Dragonfly training specialises in training schools on how to use iPads to maximise learning in MFL lessons. I am by no means an expert on this matter, but thought I would share my experiences using iPads when I teach Spanish to the Year 6 children in my school."

Getting Learning out of the Classroom with Augmented Reality

Getting Learning out of the Classroom with Augmented Reality | MFL 2.0 | Scoop.it

For a while now I have been expounding the wonders of augmented reality (See: Augmented Reality and Web 3.0) , so I thought it was time at last to give some examples of how we can actually get students using this technology and to show how it can superimpose the Internet onto their physical world. So here are some teaching suggestion which exploit two augmented reality type apps and gives students some reading, listening and speaking practice, as well as a bit of exercise.

Voyant Tools: Reveal Your Texts

Voyant Tools: Reveal Your Texts | MFL 2.0 | Scoop.it

This is a very interesting tool for analysing text and word frequency in text. It enables you to create your own mini corpus and see how words are used in context.

Randy Rebman's curator insight, December 15, 2012 7:54 PM

This tool allows you to easily export the concordance lines into a text file. Provided the text was either online or in a text file, it also makes identifying vocabulary words in texts easier. As a corpus tool on the web, I find the option of being able to upload multiple texts into the corpus one of the benefits of the site. But this tool is still in Beta mode, so there may still be some kinks with it that need worked out.
