The southernmost town on the 80-mile strip of sand referred to as the Riviera Maya, Tulum has always been a perfect getaway from Cancun to see the Mayan ruins. Only well-traveled European backpackers would consider spending the night in one of the bungalows on the beach. Lately, however, a small sampling of all-inclusive resorts have opened in this sleepy seaside town.
Hi Andreas, sorry for not posting for so long, I am in Tijuana, Mexico, where my La Frontera exhibition (above during the installation) and my workshop went really well. At least I want to share some of my favorite 'fake polaroids' I shot here while continuing my work on the project about artists along the US-Mexican border. I will post those images here at some point ... Until soon, all the best from wonderful Tijuana !!
A visit by Pope Benedict XVI scheduled to begin March 23 will put Guanajuato in the spotlight. But even before you take in its rich history, the scenery of a city built in a canyon at 6,600 feet (2,000 meters) will sweep you away.
This year we spent our winter vacation in the Yucatan peninsula, mostly in the northern part of it. We again betrayed our beloved Thailand…But the flight to Cancun is so much shorter and cheaper, that it made our choice. The trip started at night of the 21 st of January. We left our home in Rockville after 11 pm, did some mosquito net and repellent shopping on the way and reached Las Vegas pretty late in the night. Visited Bellagio, which had the Chinese New Year theme at its greenhouse Atrium. Just plain beautiful, done with taste, dragons and kids made of flowers…
“There are a number of hiking alternatives in the Los Cabos area but one you might not have thought of is hiking in the Pedregal community. This community is located in Cabo San Lucas and built on a desert mountain, referred to as The Pedregal Mountain. Homes on what we call the marina side have views of downtown Cabo San Lucas, the marina and bay. Homes on the other side of the Pedregal Mountain have views of the Pacific Ocean.”
I ride my bike a lot in Mazatlan. It is a great town for bike riding, at least as far as I'm concerned. Some people are put off by the traffic (pedestrian and vehicular), but I think it adds to the excitement and challenge.

While some all-inclusive resorts may be content with providing basic foods in overcooked buffets with no real flavor, Grand Velas Riviera Maya and Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit strive to provide gourmet cuisine at every turn.
At first glance most of the city streets of Merida appear to be a Mexican version of the Victorian terraces of working-class England; meager two up/two down houses with a communal bathroom at the end of the street and an open sewer running down the middle...
“Married couples do things differently. For example, Hub lives to scuba dive...while I love to shop, and on occasion we do things together... like walking, which is enjoyable, great exercise and in Maz there’s lots to see, even while enjoying a leisurely stroll.”
One of my regular contributors*, Ted Druch, emailed me to say that he's directing the next Writers Conference at Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Sadly, I'm too far away but for anyone less geographically-challenged, here are the ...
