Monica Rix Paxson's insight:

Can’t wait to see this. Mexico was not able to maintain their extensive rail system because it was too hard to get parts for the engines. But the rails are still there are I'm sure this was a fascinating exploration.

Monica Rix Paxson's insight:

Mexico has made huge strides in offering its citizens healthcare, with a goal of universal care. However, there are places that are so poor, so isolated that there simply isn´t the medical staff, nor the infrastructure to care for everyone. Case Study: Joint Replacement | Extending Independent Living with Surgery in Mexico

Case Study: Joint Replacement | Extending Independent Living with Surgery in Mexico | The Joy of Mexico | Scoop.it

Waiting for surgery is pretty standard in Canada where Harriet lived. The estimated wait time for a knee replacement was ten months, nearly a year. For everyone, the wait is annoying, but for Harriet it was a serious problem. Harriet provided the care for her disabled husband who was nearly helpless without her. Ironically, Ralph’s knees were fine. He had a lung condition and used oxygen, but it was Harriet, who needed the knee replacement.

Monica Rix Paxson's insight:

Affordable surgery is a great thing. Of course, in Canada most joint-replacement surgery is paid for by government-provided healthcare. But sometimes timing is everything. It was for this woman.

The Mexican holiday of Dia de los Muertos occcurs between November 1-2. This is very close to the US holiday of Halloween celebrated on October 31. This article focuses on how in Cancun, there seems to be a blending of the two, which is really interesting. Geographically, we are just a border away. Culturally, we are moving closer and adapting eachother's traditions to better understand them.
