10 Lesson Plans to Develop Digital Literacies

10 Lesson Plans to Develop Digital Literacies | Metawriting | Scoop.it

Over the last few months I have been working hard to develop a set of commercially available lesson materials. These lesson plans aren't specifically designed for English language learners, though they will be useful for students at higher levels who want stimulating skills based practice or for any teacher interested in developing a CLIL or content based approach to language learning. They were designed to enable any teacher to develop students in a way that is more closely aligned to the kinds of skills they will need to function effectively and critically in the digital world.

What We Really Need To Know About Ed Tech | Metawriting | Scoop.it
Those "5 Things You Need to Know About EdTech" posts seem to crop up on Twitter every couple weeks -- Tech isn't the Point of EdTech, EdTech is about Learning, EdTech is Exciting. But for those who've heard and read it all before, here's a completely different take on that headline.

7 Razones Por Que los Educadores Tienen Que USAR vereda Los Medios Sociales:

Celeste Weinstein's curator insight, February 20, 2014 9:51 PM

EDCI397 emphasizes the need for teachers to develop their PLN, and this blog post demonstrates the positive impact these connections can have on the classroom as a whole. Teachers who become connected through social media, such as Twitter or Pinterest, can gain the tools they need to better engage their students. Although I was initially reluctant to use Twitter and other social media as an educational tool, the collaborative opportunities and the chance to help students and their parents connect with the classroom and the world around them made me realize how essential the use of social media in the classroom can be.

Hier is ook in Nederland nog een wereld te winnen. Als de politiek zich nu eens wat minder hijgerig met onderwijs bezig zou houden en (goedopgeleide) docenten hun werk zou laten doen.

Lisa Marie Blaschke's curator insight, January 22, 2014 4:22 AM

In addition to helping students acquire new knowledge, teachers today also need to guide students in developing the skills they need to become more self-determined and lifelong learners. These are competencies that can help teachers do just that.

Lou Salza's curator insight, September 3, 2013 1:36 PM

The video on this site is remarkable --several languages, different subjects and topics--all telling a similar story: mobile technology boosts engagement and learning in school.--Lou

Excerpt:

The real impact of new technology in school doesn’t have anything to do with grades. The fact that I was able to bring many different opportunities for learning into my classroom always felt right as we went through the process at A level. As you can see in the video above, at the Stephen Perse Foundation the GCSE cohort had many opportunities to express their learning. At a time when collaboration and communication skills are at the top of any employers desirable qualities, it is fitting we are seeing more of it in our classrooms.
