Dossier spécial : les licences Creative Commons | Metatrame | Scoop.it

"The primary reason for implementing the export permission, according to InWorldz partner David Daeschler, is to clearly define the content that residents are allowed to download from the grid using a viewer’s built-in export function. Several viewers allow users to download objects as XML, OXP or Collada files either to keep as a local backups, or to take them to other grids."

The Project started 2012. At the beginning she created a group to exchange knowledge and experience about the 3D modelling tool "Blender". Some experienced people met and the idea was to give the knowledge to others. That was the birth of "Anette's Schule".
The METROPOLIS TEAM made the approach to her to open the school officially. This laid the foundation of the "METROPOLIS Academy". After four years existence Metropolis experienced what knowledge had been needed:
Transferring knowledge and know how in the use of tools and technics to other residents.
The courses are free of charge and include themes like: Creating sculpties and MESHes using "Blender", Texturize with "Gimp", LINUX for beginners, How to start an own region with Open Sim technologies, HTML and PHP Courses. To have an overview about all of them see:

Immersive Education: What does the future hold? This is the theme for the 3rd European immersive education summit

The 3rd European iED summit will explore what the future holds as we move into a phase of more widespread adoption for immersive education and start to see exciting new possibilities. The early euphoria over virtual worlds has since become more realistic as the community starts to explore the opportunities afforded by this technology. It has been recognised that the industry until very recently was in the ‘disillusionment trough’ phase of the classic Gartner hype cycle1  and is now moving towards the ‘enlightenment slope’ with the promise of greater levels of usage and productivity. This status is also reflected by the Rogers Innovation Adoption Curve2, as we move from purely engaging with ‘early adopters’ through to acceptance by the wider ‘early majority’ and the promise of more widespread adoption. This summit will reflect on some of the recent changes in the technology and examples of research and best practice from the wider community. It will explore what is actually meant by Immersive Education, and the opportunities and realities afforded by this exciting new technology.

YrGrid, a gambling-themed grid, launched earlier this year with a Bitcoin-based in-world currency. Three of these grids are not hypergrid enabled, showing that closed commercial grids are still doing a better job of marketing to new users, and should be lauded for helping bring people to OpenSim.

However, because the total number of hypergrid-enabled grids has been increasing dramatically, the total number of active users on the hypergrid continues to pull away from the number of users on the closed grids..."

.../From 2015 onwards, The Museo del Metaverso will focus its attention on a coming together of the physical and digital. The Museo will be more than a place to visit and explore. Beyond the beauty of its architecture and the treasures it contains, the MdM will be a workshop, a breeding ground for new ideas, a place where, using to internet in all its various forms, exhibitions and events can reach the physical world and be seen to their best advantage. All the various working parts, from the architecture and artwork, to the performances, the events, the staff and artists, come together to form a single conceptual work, both immersive and performative, with which we aim to mirror the very best of the physical world.

I particularly wish to thank Alpha Auer, better known in the physical world as Professor Elif Ayiter, Editor, Metaverse Creativity - Journal, Intellect Journals, UK. Her hard work and artistic brilliance made all the difference to this project, and she has all my heartfelt gratitude./...

Virtual reality, the death of morality, and the perils of making the virtual ever more real

Virtual reality, the death of morality, and the perils of making the virtual ever more real | Metatrame | Scoop.it
As the technology that underpins virtual reality develops and the experiences become increasingly more real, I've been pondering a particularly morbid thought: When will we have the first VR-induced death? Will a realistic rocket launcher blast in Team Fortress 2 or VR version of Silent Hill give you a heart attack? Will a a VR experience be so realistic that you get so swept up in the moment that you run into a wall or jump out a window?

Irish Kids create Virtual Reality, then explore it using Oculus Rift

This is one of the most exciting videos I've seen about Oculus Rift, and it's a Technology.ie exclusive! MissionV is a virtual reality platform for teaching and training which is currently beta-testing in 11 Irish schools. Recently, MissionV founder James Corbett brought me to visit one of those schools: St Kieran's NS in Broughal, Co Offaly. The kids there are expert users of MissionV, which uses OpenSimulator, the open source version of Linden Labs Second Life, running on a closed server, with access controlled by their teacher.

Normally they use a desktop client, keyboard and mouse to build and explore their virtual world, but today James has brought something different: the Oculus Rift VR headset.

Virtual Reality is cool - sure! And Oculus has generated a lot of speculation since its acquisition by Facebook last month. But what's really cool is that these 10 - 12 year olds learned 3D modelling and scripting, raided the web for textures and images, and recreated a historic site after a field-trip to Clonmacnoise.

School principal Esther Lambe says the students are eager and excited about the project, queuing outside the classroom door in the morning. The learning covers mathematics and computer programming, literacy and project management, history, archaeology and design. It is accelerated by the fun they are having. It is collaborative and self-directed: "Somebody finds a solution to a problem, and then they tell everybody else."

MissionV will open for all schools from September 2014.
