| MétaTraduction | Scoop.it

| MétaTraduction | Scoop.it

When linguistic, culture and espionage come together, it gives us an enthralling blog post!

How to survive in the world where everybody tells you to be an expert?

How to survive in the world where everybody tells you to be an expert? | MétaTraduction | Scoop.it

About a year ago, when I first started studying the future patterns of work, I came across many predictions about how employment (in fact, any form of work) is going to look like in the future. One of such potential developments, perhaps supported with strongest evidence and research, is so-called hyperspecialisation (for more read Thomas Malone from MIT) – the future in which every worker will be super specialised in their very narrow part of the process of work.

This autumn, Marta Stelmaszak was away working and enjoying both South and North America. She spent 25 days in Argentina, Uruguay and the United States. While machine translation can and does play a significant role in reducing costs and speeding the eDiscovery process, legal professionals should be careful when using any translation service that does not specifically protect data from any use not directly authorized by the client.   After careful examination and consideration, it seems that we “are not quite there yet” with respect to web-based translation technologies.

Most freelance translators work on commercial texts of some kind – whether through agencies or directly for corporate clients. And as independent professionals, we also run our own businesses.

However, not many translators have had the chance to study business skills and concepts, like marketing, organisational strategy and business analysis. So we may not be quite as on-the-ball, business-wise, as we would like.
