8B Grace's curator insight, February 10, 2016 9:29 PM

Almost 6% of the adult and children population in Africa is affected by diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. However, not only Africa is getting affected but entire world is getting affected by these diseases. Diabetes epidemic is growing more and more around the world. Unlike other developed countries, working-age people are affected the most in Africa. This cause a problem because the workers are sick so they cause some weaknesses in household and also affect the country's economy. Then the affecting of the country’s economy decrease the country’s development. Africa major problem is the health financing because Africans are poor and not getting any big amount of money from working. So they don't have any money to protect themselves from these diseases that need a protection from medicines. However, this problem is still not solved in Africa because people can't afford money or medicines to not get the disease.

This article made me more think about how Africa can be rich and poor at the same time. Also this showed how workers are very important in Africa because when they are sick from these diseases, they won’t be able to work for money. When they can’t work, it means that their family is going to suffer for days until the worker from the family works or country will not develop and affect the country’s economy. So this helped me understand more about Africa’s situation about health and how big number of people are affected. While reading this article, I thought about my situation when our family was sick. We were able to go to the hospital or eat medicines as fast as we can but looking back to Africans, I learned that I should be happy with what I have and think positive about it. So this article made me sad and feel bad about people living in Africa because they can’t do anything about it even if they have diseases that are killing them or hurting people around them.
