Behavioral Economics, History of. (penultimate version for ElsevierThe International Encyclopedia of the Social and Behavioral Sciences, Second Edition) | Social Science & Social Psychology for Human Systems | Scoop.it

Abstract

This article reviews the historical development of behavioral economics, with an emphasis on how it has become part of mainstream economics. FirstI describe the separation between economics and psychology as a historicalbackground against which behavioral economics emerged. Then I introducecritiques of expected utility theory (EUT), and explain how behavioral de-cision research (BDR) developed using EUT as an experimental paradigm.I then distinguish “old”, “new” and “second-wave” behavioral economics, and briefly discuss criticims of the last.

"With remarkable consistency, the data confirmed that communication indeed plays a critical role in building successful teams. In fact, we’ve found patterns of communication to be the most important predictor of a team’s success. Not only that, but they are as significant as all the other factors—individual intelligence, personality, skill, and the substance of discussions—combined".
