From Stress to Inflammation and Major Depressive Disorder: A Social Signal Transduction Theory of Depression | mental and emotional treatment by naturopathy and homeopathy | Scoop.it
Major life stressors, especially those involving interpersonal stress and social rejection, are among the strongest proximal risk factors for depression. In this review, we propose a biologically plausible, multilevel theory that describes neural, physiologic, ...
Cottesloe Naturopathic Clinic's insight:

Stress is a potent activator of inflammation in the body, and studies have shown that this inflammation is implicated in depression, as well as other chronic physical diseases. Cognitive therapies that improve depression reduce inflammation, and conversely anti-inflammatory agents relieve depression... The conclusion must be that lifestyle and diet are fundamentally important in managing, preventing and treating depression and all chronic disease...

New Research Discovers That Depression Is An Allergic Reaction To Inflammation

New Research Discovers That Depression Is An Allergic Reaction To Inflammation | mental and emotional treatment by naturopathy and homeopathy | Scoop.it
Cottesloe Naturopathic Clinic's insight:

Current research shows that inflammation is at the root of most chronic disease. Now it seems that depression is no different. Inflammatory mediators known as cytokines are extremely high in depressed individuals. Inflammation is caused by unhealthy diets and lifestyles - high sugar, trans fats, simple carbs and obesity, and environmental toxins. So for depression it is important to remedy lifestyles, not just take drugs. Antioxidant nutrients such as turmeric and omega 3 oils have also been shown to help patients with depression... #depression #inflammation #cytokines #antioxidants

The idea has been promoted by drug companies and medical professionals, but the evidence base for it is almost non existent. Does consciousness arise from quantum processes in the brain?

Does consciousness arise from quantum processes in the brain? | mental and emotional treatment by naturopathy and homeopathy | Scoop.it
Stuart Hameroff is a Professor of Anesthesiology and Psychology at the University of Arizona — but he's a pariah as far as most neuroscientists are concerned. The reason?
Cottesloe Naturopathic Clinic's insight:

Here is a one hour video that is absolutely fascinating. In it, Hameroff explains his theory that consciousness is inherent in the quantum fabric of the universe at the Planck level. The quantum world is pre-material. As he explains it, the collapse of the wave function, to produce the material world, does not just require consciousness but IS consciousness. The proto-consciousness is mediated via the microtubules in the brain and may well survive death and explain out of body and near death experiences and non-local phenomona; and he also discusses the possibility of reincarnation. It is all backed up by experimentation and he has worked closely with Roger Penrose, the mathematician and philosopher who has argued for thirty years for a quantum explanation of consciousness and that the brain is not just a computer. Hopefully I have done these ideas justice...it deserves more than one viewing...

Individualised homeopathy as effective as Prozac — European Committee for Homeopathy | mental and emotional treatment by naturopathy and homeopathy | Scoop.it
A research group at the Federal University of Sao Paulo, Brazil recently demonstrated that the effectiveness of individualized homeopathy was statistically equivalent to fluoxetine (Prozac), a standard effective treatment in acute depression.
Cottesloe Naturopathic Clinic's insight:

This research investigated the effectiveness of homeopathy versus Fluoxetine (Prozac) in the treatment of depression. Participants taking the drug reported more troublesome side effects and there was a trend toward greater treatment interruption for adverse effects. This study indicates that homeopathy is not inferior as compared to fluoxetine in acute treatment of outpatients with depression, with less side effects...

The study of dreaming is called oneirology, and it's a field of inquiry that spans neuroscience, psychology, and even literature. Still, the plain fact is that the reasons why we dream are still mysterious.
Cottesloe Naturopathic Clinic's insight:

One thing is clear: dreams appear necessary for our health, both physical and emotional. Similar to sleeping itself, exactly why we dream is mysterious. Homeopathy gives importance to dreams, where clear and recurring. Apparent absence of dreams, as well as "excessive" dreaming are abnormal. This article outlines 10 theories of dreaming. As a homeopath, I ean towards points 7 to 10, but I see them as a form of emotional clearing or processing that often contain symbolic content. As always, symbols cannot be explained logically, as this article attempts. They mention Freud, but not Jung...

Research shows that the food you eat can have a profound effect on your mental health. So, regardless of your mental health problem, the importance of addressing your diet simply cannot be overstated. In a very real sense, you have two brains — one in your head, and one in your gut. Both are created from the same tissue during fetal development, and they’re connected via your vagus nerve, the tenth cranial nerve that runs from your brain stem to your abdomen.
Cottesloe Naturopathic Clinic's insight:

There is increasing evidence that disturbances in the gut microflora and chronic inflammation in the body are two of the key causes of depression. A bad diet and processed foods contribute to both...

Mother, there are people who suffer from certain illnesses year after year, we know. Now, if we observe this illness, we see that it comes at a particular time of the year and this goes on the next year also, and it is like that. But the time is fixed. Then what is the reason, and how can one get rid of this?

An interview with the Mother, on how to heal memories stored in the body, working with pure light. "...it is an operation which must be performed with inner forces; it cannot be done physically. That is why all physical remedies, you see, are simply palliatives; they are not cures, because they are not strong enough to touch the living centre of the thing."
