Content Curation Is How We Make Sense Of The Web Today | Dachis Group

Content Curation Is How We Make Sense Of The Web Today | Dachis Group | MeMobile | Scoop.it

Content curation is how we make sense of our world today. And there are tremendous opportunities for brands, if we pay attention to the way consumers are connecting through shared interests (aka – interest graphs). To explore these opportunities, let’s look at content curation in three categories:

1. Consumers as curators.

Everything is curated now. We view the world through filters – trusted sources like friends or online communities to which we belong. ‘I want to look at topic X through your lens because you are someone I trust.’

2. Brands as content.

This one is simple. Consumers use your brands to express themselves. Therefore brands have to provide variety and portability if they want to show up in their customers’ content stream. By allowing people access to the raw material of your brand, they can better identify with your products and amplify your messages.

3. Brands as curators.

Proper positioning allows brands to apply their expertise, act as smart filters and become the go-to destination on certain topics. This is what we’re all striving for.

Siri May Be Part Of Your Television | MeMobile | Scoop.it

Even I, as a person who really doesn’t use much Apple tech, sat up and took notice when the Let’s Talk iPhone show brought out Siri, the voice-driven personal assistant that answered questions posed to it like an actual person with an Internet connection might. But when the reports emerged that said Siri might be making an appearance on your home theater, that was it for me. I knew something interesting was afoot.

...the headset would cover the user’s entire head. With attachments to the nose, ears and mouth, it transfers video, audio, taste and smell from one location to another. In effect, it creates a new reality for the user. The developers are careful to describe the uniqueness of their brainchild. First, of course, is the scientific innovation behind it. “It is not virtual reality,” said Chalmers, showing me a mock-up of the helmet, which he hopes to have fully ready in three to five years. “It’s real virtuality. It effectively takes someone to an African safari and lets them experience it as if they were there. It’s a more inexpensive way to travel.” Their display had an early version of the experience – a sailboat trip. When I tried it out, putting on goggles, I saw the sails, heard the water and even felt wind (thanks to a wind machine). I was sprayed in the face with water.

...the key of course is that these lists are created un-prompted by those they follow, they have selected ‘you’ quietly in the background to be a part of a personal filter, carefully structured by users who want a way to distill the vastness of a 140 character universe of noise, that is twitter – making lists for themselves of a few key personal influencers through to hundreds of sharing tweeters across several lists on quite broad topics, the lists themselves followed by thousands.

New Google algorithm gives you fresher, more recent search results | Official Google Blog

New Google algorithm gives you fresher, more recent search results | Official Google Blog | MeMobile | Scoop.it

Search results, like warm cookies right out of the oven or cool refreshing fruit on a hot summer’s day, are best when they’re fresh. Even if you don’t specify it in your search, you probably want search results that are relevant and recent.

Given the incredibly fast pace at which information moves in today’s world, the most recent information can be from the last week, day or even minute, and depending on the search terms, the algorithm needs to be able to figure out if a result from a week ago about a TV show is recent, or if a result from a week ago about breaking news is too old.

We completed our Caffeine web indexing system last year, which allows us to crawl and index the web for fresh content quickly on an enormous scale. Building upon the momentum from Caffeine, today we’re making a significant improvement to our ranking algorithm that impacts roughly 35 percent of searches and better determines when to give you more up-to-date relevant results for these varying degrees of freshness...

How To Distinguish High Value Curation From Republishing: What Makes A True Curator Great? | MasterNewMedia

How To Distinguish High Value Curation From Republishing: What Makes A True Curator Great? | MasterNewMedia | MeMobile | Scoop.it

Today content curation is "sold", promoted and marketed as the latest and trendiest approach to content production, SEO visibility, reputation and traffic building. But is it really so? Is it really true that by aggregating many content sources and picking and republishing those news and stories that you deem great is really going to benefit you and your readers in the long run? Is the road to easy and effortless publishing via curation tools a true value creation business strategy, or just a risky fad? How can one tell?

Robin Good clarifies few key points in his article:

1. Curation can be effective only...

2. Shallow curation efforts...

3. Curation is an effective means to...

4. The key element that makes curation work is the competence...

For these reasons, Robin Good thinks that much of the apparent new curation work being done is bound to be soon disappointed by the results it will gain.

Robin Good's goal is to help you understand how you can start to evaluate and distinguish value-creating content curation, from shallow aggregation, noise-making republication and pure content regurgitation before it is too late or someone else in your same niche will have done it before you.

How Do You Recognize a Quality Content Curator:

- Optimizes titles...

- Edits / rewrites titles...

- Formats curated content with microscopic precision...

- Selects and adds relevant images...

- Excerpts selected text...

- Writes his/her own intro...

How Do You Recognize a Wasteland-Filler - Aggregator - Republisher?

- No Additional Value...

- No Editing...

- No selection...

- No filtering...

Tablets replace notebooks for multi-screen TV users

Tablets replace notebooks for multi-screen TV users | MeMobile | Scoop.it

TV viewers who use a gadget to surf the web or chat on Facebook while watching TV are migrating away from the laptop and toward the tablet as the preferred personal device, according to research from the Strategy Analytics Digital Home Observatory. The report – Multi-Screen User Behaviors in the Home – also found that, for those who own a laptop or a tablet, smartphone use while watching TV is limited to ‘alert’ functions, such as text or voice messages, rather than as a TV companion.

Personalized Entertainment – Social, Transmedia Storytelling

Personalized Entertainment – Social, Transmedia Storytelling | MeMobile | Scoop.it

"Grab some nibbles, pour yourself a drink, and sit down. You’re now ready to immerse yourself in a TV show. And then you notice that CSI Miami is placing Facebook photos of your aunt, uncle, and cousins onto the desk of a perp. Lean forward, and keep your eyes peeled, updates from your Facebook page are about to be incorporated into your favorite TV show’s narrative. (Your best friend becomes the suspect!) As you immerse yourself in the story, the story immerses itself in your social world. In this context, online meets offline and your family and friends will never look the same again!"

Stats! "Every 2 minutes today we snap as many photos as the whole of humanity took in the 1800s" 1000memories | MeMobile | Scoop.it

Even accounting for population growth the exponential growth of photos is incredible (we take 4 times as many photos as 10 year ago). Today every party, birthday, sports game and concert is documented in rich detail. The combination of all these photos is a rich portrait of today, the possibilities of which are illustrated by a tool like “The Moment”. As photos keep growing we take a clearer and clearer snapshot of our lives and world today - in total we have now taken over 3.5 trillion photos. The kind of photos we are taking has changed drastically - analog photos have almost disappeared - but the growth of photos continues.
