New free iBook demonstrates power of iPad as a medical education learning platform | Medisch onderwijs : innovatie door technologie | Scoop.it

Here at iMedicalApps, we are strong believers that mobile technology can make a significant, measurable, positive impact on medical education. When Technologies Collide: Consumer, K-12 and Higher Ed

When Technologies Collide: Consumer, K-12 and Higher Ed | Medisch onderwijs : innovatie door technologie | Scoop.it
Schools have been adopting iPads with lightning speed — more than 1.5 million have already been distributed to students, a mere two years after the original iPad launch. But beyond Apple’s influence in education, the high-profile tablet appears to be the poster child for a different trend.

Call it the consumerization of education technology.

What the iPad’s rapid incursion into the classroom masks is that the walls that used to slow new instructional technology’s adoption in education are falling. And when walls fall, what’s inside can spill out in any one of several directions.

Calling for a revolution in medical education

Calling for a revolution in medical education | Medisch onderwijs : innovatie door technologie | Scoop.it

Harvard Medical student Sandeep Kishore called for a revolution in medical education at TEDMED 2012, counselling the "introduc[tion of] the 'causes of the causes' into medical curricula."

Kishore posits that how doctors are likely to think and act is conditioned by the medical education they have received.

His message that "medical students of today are not being prepared for the challenges of tomorrow" reflects the fact that many doctors cannot knowledgeably prescribe exercise or nutrition — pillars of prevention — because they have received insufficient training in the subjects

Challenges in doing Social Media Workshops for Medical Educators

I like this post, simple and yet tought provoking. Organising a Social Media workshop is not an easy task, giving participants what they expect is a challenge... I had direct experience last year at AMEE. I think the concept of "watch and think" and "feel and do" is what facilitators should not forget. Talking and reflecting on personal experiences is fine, but it shouldn't take more than the 10% of the whole workshop... However, showcase and reflect on what has been produced during the workshop is essential!
