Seven black swans for education in 2012

A different top ten list
For the past 6 years i’ve done a top ten list to finish off the year. As my interests have evolved and as my writing has changed, i’ve found it more difficult each year to try and pull together the list. This year I saw HackEducations http://www.hackeducation.com/2011/12/15/top-ed-tech-trends-of-2011-open/ post and thought… huh… that’s pretty much what i would have said. I’m sure I would have come at it slightly differently, maybe not spelled as well, but I don’t think i have significantly more to offer to that discussion. The only thing I would have added was Learning Analytics. So… check Hack Education’s list. ...

Learning By Exploring, Organizing and Curating a Body of Information: Curatr

Robin Good: Curatr, an elearning platform built upon the idea of discovery through the curation and sense-making of existing information, has just released an updated version of its platform which you can check out here: http://www.curatr.co.uk/index2.php

Live demo: http://www.curatr.co.uk/index2.php?view=demo

Curatr allows professional trainers, experts, and teachers, as much as students to organize and curate information for the purpose of learning.

What I like very much is the Curatr promotional video, which says lots of true things about education and about the way we should carry it out in the future. The next-button-robot approach to information memorization needs to be replaced with a new approach: learning to understand how learners construct knowledge.

Curatr is about the construction of the scaffolding that allows people to learn and to find the resources that should help them best learn what they are interested into.

Promising. Insightful. 8/10

Content Curation - Best Practices

Content curation has become a hot topic in 2012.

Corrine Weisgerber, an associate professor at St. Edwards University, has an excellent presentation on content curation.

She differentiates content curation from content aggregation--content aggregation can be automated but content curation requires the human touch for finding, evaluating and contextualizing information.

Gust MEES: Corinne is from Luxembourg (Europe), my country, don't know Luxembourg? Check out my curation about Luxembourg here: http://www.scoop.it/t/luxembourg-europe
