A new study by Hay Group shows that female leaders tend to have better interpersonal skills.

Research by Hay Group, culled from its 17,000-person behavioral competency database in 2012, finds that when it comes to empathy, influence, and the ability to manage conflicts in the executive level, women show more skill than men. Specifically, women are more likely to show empathy as a strength, demonstrate strong ability in conflict management, show skills in influence, and have a sense of self-awareness.

Lisa's opening sentence get to the heart of the matter confronting organisations today. Leadership is about WHO you lead.  And 'who' is a collection of individuals with hopes and dreams and aspirations. Leaders who put people first, and make people centric decisions, cannot fail to build great organisations. They may not generate the returns of those who slash, burn and outsource staff, but their is a far greater probabilty of the firm still being in existence long after management fads pass into history.

It was found, for example, that runs batted in (RBI), batting average, and how many wins a pitcher has are not very useful statistics. The same is true for the things that used to matter most to recruiters and managers.
