Successful Companies Are “Nice”

Successful Companies Are “Nice” | Mediocre Me | Scoop.it

“There’s no way to institutionalize or “corporatize” niceness…. It has to come from the top, and from there it will filter down…"

We live in a world where information travels quickly and powerfully. Nothing happens—good or bad—without the world knowing it.

In his book Nice Companies Finish First: Why Cutthroat Management is over—and Collaboration Is In, author Peter Shankman shows how famously nice executives, entrepreneurs, and companies are setting the standard for success in this new world. He goes in-depth with nine hallmarks of effective leadership.

Getting away from the normal routine will recharge your batteries and enable you to deal with your business challenges in a more effective way. You will unplug from your situation, see things from a different perspective and bring new ideas to deal with your problems.
Great advice by Eric Wagner that will help you avoid burnout and give you the chance to rejuvenate and refocus. Go for it :)

An interesting perspective on how to gain new insight and edge on your business... To step back, and remove yourself from it all so that you can spend time thinking about your business and innovative ways to get ahead.

Ashleigh Dawley's curator insight, August 27, 2013 3:28 PM

While vacation is nice get away from the normal grind of work it can have real benefits to not only your work ethic, but also what your "vision" of work is. I think that the point about how people get stuck working "in" their business that they forget to work "on" their business is really insightful and got me really thinking about myself and our families business.

11 Ways That Active Listening Can Help Your Relationships

11 Ways That Active Listening Can Help Your Relationships | Mediocre Me | Scoop.it

Put active listening together with empathy to improve your relationships ..

To become an effective communicator, you need to learn to listen just as much as you need to learn to speak. Unfortunately, most people focus more on the speaking than they do on the listening. Whether in a one-on-one conversation or a group meeting or classroom, focusing on what others are saying allows you to present yourself more effectively. When you listen correctly, you also learn more.

Being an actively empathic listener means, then, that you not only make sure you're actively paying attention but that you let the speaker you know you are. You ask questions when you're not clear on what the other person is communicating, you try to infer what the person is feeling, and you let the person know that you remember what he or she actually said.
