Then, hopefully, come customers, distribution channels, and going public or merging with an attractive buy-out candidate. Communication is not just talking, but also listening, writing, body language, and “actions speak louder than words.”

Business owners sometimes forget that talking is not communication, and as a consequence, often experience high levels of frustration when others don't get the message and fail to act as expected.

in addition to the message content, communication also involves body language, listening, writing and acting in alignment with the the expected outcomes to be delivered, and whilst complex, effective communication skills can be developed.

This excellent article, suggests that business owners need to understand and overcome the communication barriers faced by the targets of their communication, and it identifies seven categories of barriers that must be overcome to ensure effectiveness in message delivery.

It will be interesting to see how this picture changes over the next year. While Richard Branson is currently the undisputed CEO social champion nothing lasts forever on social media. He has a loyal following but even he sees wildly varying engagement levels depending on the quality of what he posts.
