Medical Expert - Intended Learning Outcome 1

Medical expertise integrates the knowledge, clinical skills, procedural skills
and professional behaviours that are fundamental to excellent patient care. In other words this describes what the psychiatrist needs to do, how they do it, when they do it and the manner in which they work.

 

Be able to perform specialist assessment of patients and document relevant history and examination on culturally diverse patients to include:


• Presenting or main complaint
• History of present illness
• Past medical and psychiatric history
• Systemic review
• Family history
• Socio-cultural history
• Developmental history

These are the basic skills that any doctor should have been developing since the beginning of your training. In core training this should honing those skills to manage the full range of potential presentations.
