A lot can happen in nine months—and that’s exactly the hope of leaders from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and professional organizations when it comes to being ready for end-to-end testing of ICD-10 claims by October 1, 2013. Yes, you read it right: By October 1, 2013—one year before the official October 1, 2014 implementation.

Quote:
"I think this is more about the various noncompliance penalties for federally mandated healthcare reform and a lack of incentives for ICD-10 implementation. This opposition will probably become less vigorous if some money became available. In the past I've doubted that Congress would be willing to spend more money. But who knows. Maybe if you package it as some sort of healthcare stimulus package that will enable the industry to detect waste and fraud better."
