"Rupert Murdoch's tablet newspaper launched with big ambitions and an assist from Apple. But with News Corp.'s corporate divorce on the horizon, it's cutting costs."

News Corp. is not dong very well overall but the Daily didn't seem to live up to its initial expectations, maybe showing that the iPad is not the natural savior of the Media industry some wished to see at its beginning.

Microsoft Rebrands Hotmail As Outlook, Adds Facebook Integration | Media Techniques | Scoop.it
Microsoft’s latest attempt to beef up its Hotmail email service to compete with Google’s Gmail by rebranding it as Outlook and adding integration with Facebook and other social networks.

Over the past several years, social networks have become an incredibly popular place to share and communicate with friends and co-workers. At the same time, email use among people who use social networks actively has continued to increase. We saw an opportunity to make email better by using your connections on social networks to enrich your email experience. And so with the Outlook.com preview, we are giving you the first email service that is connected to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google, and, soon, Skype, to bring relevant context and communications to your email.

What Higher Education Will Look Like in 2020 [STUDY]

What Higher Education Will Look Like in 2020 [STUDY] | Media Techniques | Scoop.it
Experts predict technology will facilitate distance learning outside of traditional classrooms, according to a survey published by the Pew Internet & American Life Project. In the study, 1,021 education experts and stakeholders including technology researchers, university directors, venture capitalists and Ivy League university professors, relayed their predictions about the future of higher education.

About 60% of respondents believe higher education will look completely different from the way it is today.

Teleconferencing, online universities and distance learning will lead to hybrid campuses, experts said. Hybrid campuses will incorporate online learning plus in-person class meetings.

How To Design Your Own Infographics

How To Design Your Own Infographics | Media Techniques | Scoop.it

Infographics seem to be a real trend today, with new ones popping up daily on all sorts of subjects. From mortgages to ice cream, estimating software to infographics about infographics, there is very little now that hasn't been 'visualised' in some form. Many people don't realise that the term information graphic, or 'infographic' was first coined over 100 years ago, with the Coxcomb chart by Florence Nightingale in 1857 being one of earliest recognised examples. They have existed in many forms since then, but only in the past few years have infographics developed into the art form we know today.
