De presentatie van Steve Wheeler trekt veel aandacht. Curation vs. Aggregation? Curation is such a necessity these days. The overwhelming wave of information we are exposed to is drowning us in facts and opinion. Not only do we need to be curating the information that we are consuming but we need to be insisting that our students have the skills and necessary tools in which to curate their own world. I have listed a number of capable curation apps that can help to do just that. I tend to use more than one of these and in fact there are days that I would use three or four. Have a look at the ones that might feel right for you. I have a soft spot for Flipboard but only because it was the tool that first opened my eyes to the potential of the iPad in a classroom - I used it as a twitter fed "further reading" text for a senior art class. In een tweede rapport van het CUO voor het inclusiewerkpakket komen risicofactoren en risicogroepen voor sociale en digitale uitsluiting aan bod. De centrale vraag in dit deel van het onderzoek was welke bevolkingsgroepen het risico lopen om sociaal en digitaal uitgesloten te worden en om welke redenen. Op basis van literatuur maakten we een overzicht van risicofactoren voor sociale en digitale uitsluiting. Web curators: wat zijn ze wel en wat zijn ze niet. En wie zijn het dan? Zijn we het allemaal, daar we als gebruikers van het internet dagelijks worden overspoeld met data en informatie? Is web curation een noodzakelijke vaardigheid die een einde kan maken aan information overload door filter failure? Kunnen we niet langer wachten op de belofte van het semantische web dat ons helpt door de bomen het bos nog te zien? Is web curation een onderdeel van mediageletterdheid? 
The winner is teacher Ceri Anwen James, in a Welsh-medium school Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg from Vale of Glamorgan,Wales (UK). In her quest for combining language learning and social media use, she has created an integrated website for German learning students. Combined with a learning platform, online blogging and Podcasting, her practice has met particular linguistic, academic and practical demands. In the meantime, this practice was highly appreciated as it connects school, teacher, students as well as their families and friends.

Rob Heyman (IBBT-SMIT van de VUB) presenteerde 10 januari zijn onderzoeksresultaten over ‘Mapping and in-depth analysis of corporate profiling techniques’. De verschillende manieren waarop in sociale media persoonsgegevens verzameld en aangewend worden voor commerciële doeleinden worden in het rapport beschreven. Rob nam hiervoor vijf sociale media platformen onder de loep: Facebook, LinkedIn, Netlog, StumbleUpon en Twitter. Zijn belangrijkste conclusies:
