The authors presents a conceptual analisys for Critical media health literacy. They were interested in the specific development and application of critical media health literacy (CMHL) and the processes by which it is developed in adolescents.
The key attributes:1) A skill set; 2) Empowerment and 3) competency of engaged citizenship;
CMHL becomes a democratic right and civic responsibility by which
citizens can more effectively participate socially and politically or be fully engaged with the complexities of modern life (Kupersmidt, Scull and Weintraub Austin 2010).
The ability to discover, detect and decode hidden agendas or dominant discourses should then inspire them to challenge and transform the more distal conditions influencing the health of others and their community.
THE NEW DEFITION: "critical media health literacy (CMHL) is a right of citizenship and empowers individuals and groups, in a risky consumer society, to critically interpret and use media as a means to engage in decision-making processes and dialogues; exert control over their health and everyday events; and make healthy changes for themselves and their communities".
