Digital Disruption Can Make TV Ads More, Not Less, Relevant | DigitalNext: A Blog on Emerging Media and Technology - Advertising Age | media futures | Scoop.it

digital technology is disrupting tv, but it also has the potential to make your tv ads more relevant....

Take Coca-Cola. Could the company use the Super Bowl to build a super relationship with consumers? Rather than a thousand more followers, could the company tap into thousands more consumers it can know by name, learn from, communicate with, and – gasp – sell product to?

Coca-Cola is sitting on an answer, even if the company doesn't realize it. Smart people inside of the storied brand launched the Coca-Cola Freestyle vending machine back in 2009. When I visit Five Guys Burgers and Fries more often than I should, the Freestyle machine lets me dispense a soft drink with one of a hundred flavor combinations, arrived at through a few quick choices. The machine became more than an efficient dispenser in 2011 when mobile agency T3 built a mobile gaming app for Coca-Cola called Freestyle PUSH! + Play. While today the app helps you find a Freestyle machine near you, when Coke figures out what it's sitting on, it will expand the app to let you pre-mix your soda on your phone, save your drink mix preferences and share them with friends. Ultimately the app will invite you to queue up your drink using your phone while you wait in line to order a burger with extra pickles...."

FREE: The Paid Social Media Advertising Report 2013 - Nielsen

FREE: The Paid Social Media Advertising Report 2013 - Nielsen | media futures | Scoop.it

Report covers...

Marketers are increasing budgets and using social media in conjunction with other advertising channels, but return on investment (ROI) continues to be a question.

Below are some key facts from the report:

• Advertisers increasingly view paid social media advertising as an integrated, cross-platform tactic and run it in conjunction with other online and offline media.

• Paid social media advertising is primarily used to support branding-related efforts. As a result, advertisers “would prefer to use the exact same metrics used in the offline medium, and additional metrics specific to the online medium” to measure the effectiveness of their campaigns. Very few media sellers, however, can actually provide such metrics.

• Metrics such as pins, likes and click-throughs are often used to measure paid social media advertising ROI, though advertisers and agencies think sales generated and brand lift are the most appropriate metrics to use to determine ROI.

• Advertisers are doubtful or unconvinced about the effectiveness of paid social media advertising, indicating that the growth of the medium is being somewhat hampered by a lack of relevant, universally employed metrics.

How to Create More Powerful Content Marketing Stories

How to Create More Powerful Content Marketing Stories | media futures | Scoop.it

These days, we hear a lot about the fact that content marketers need to be storytellers. Here are tips on how to create powerful content marketing stories.

I've curated this great video before from Chipotle, but it deserves another look. Not only did the company win awards and 7 million views for the video, they also took it a step further and told the story behind making the video. Good for them! Back stories are very powerful. Here's the link to the back story video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFlbGwAW7rw&feature=relmfu

And I really like how the author Manya Chylinski talks about the functions stories serve, and how biz or branding stories can have many of these same functions, but with a twist. Your stories are more than entertainment -- they are your authentic voice. You share them to build loyalty, trust, engage with customers, and grow your business.

The author's tips are solid -- but nothing really new. So go watch the video again for a refresher example on effective brand storytelling and the other video as a back-story example!

Thank you fellow curator Giuseppe Mauriello @pinomauriello for finding and sharing this with us!

Storytelling in Business -- Take Your Business to the Next Level

Storytelling in Business -- Take Your Business to the Next Level | media futures | Scoop.it
Take your business to the next level in your clients’ minds through storytelling.

I really like the list of uses for stories in business, and I also like the author's list of necessary storytelling skills to build that you don't often find like:

Adaptation Incorporation Contemplation Interpretation

The author also includes advice for following Christopher Vogler's story structure (based on fairy tales) and Carol Pearson's advertising archetypes. While Vogler's and Pearson's works are great, they are not the easiest concepts/material to work with in business storytelling when you are just getting started.

But go grab his other great article on Metaphors: http://www.entrepreneurmag.co.za/advice/growing-a-business/innovation/creativity-in-business/

Enjoy these quick reads.

Xydo is still a discovery engine, but is now focused on discovering content for email marketers. The rest of the list seems to be more focused on general purpose news discovery.

The right message served to the right person at the right time has tremendous value for local businesses, and while many of the ads we’re seeing today are limited to vouchers and special offers that are exchanged for check-ins and tweet-outs, we’re not a million years away from fully-fledged, Minority Report-style personalized marketing. And if that means an extra 25 percent off at your favourite store, who amongst us is really going to object?

5 Essential Spreadsheets for Social Media Analytics

5 Essential Spreadsheets for Social Media Analytics | media futures | Scoop.it

Social media analytics and tracking can be very time-consuming and expensive.

That’s why many social media marketers and power users are in constant search of free, efficient alternatives.

Here, we’ll share a few ready-made spreadsheets you can copy (navigate File + Make a copy) and use for social media analytics.

They are free, highly customizable and extremely easy to use.

Most of the scripts that run the spreadsheets are “public,” meaning you can access them from the Tools + Script Gallery menu (this also means they were reviewed and approved by Google Spreadsheets team).

Content Marketing in 6 Steps

Content Marketing in 6 Steps | media futures | Scoop.it

This article goes on the bottom of Content Marketing. Things change very quickly and it is therefore very important to reflect the change in demand from your prospects and/or customers. This step-by-step plan, will give you a better idea of what is important today and what you must do to be successful. [note Martin Gysler]

Most marketers have realised by now that they have to swap from the classic communication approach of sending & advertising to an approach based on content. But for most people the exact meaning of that is rather intangible. In order to help, we have composed a pragmatic step-by-step plan for companies to start content planning. The step-by-step plan is based on several surveys we realised in the past year. In this article we will present to you the 6 crucial steps to take in order to end up with a good content strategy.

Step 1: Topic selection

The first must is to check which domains your company can offer unique content in. This content needs to be in line with the company culture & vision, obviously. As far as this choice is concerned it is sensible to check one’s own expertise on the one hand and on the other to see how unique one is in the market.
