Epson America today introduced a new line of large-format color plotters designed to meet the specific requirements of today's engineering and scientific professionals – the Epson® SureColor® T3000, T5000 and T7000.
I’m going to attend PLM Innovation Americas event later this week in Atlanta, GA. This is going to be my 3rd PLM Innovation event. Thinking about innovation, this event is one of very few events in PLM space that is actually a vendor-neutral and not represents a single PLM vendor. This is a great opportunity to “mix PLM blood” and to reduce the competition pressure. Thinking about innovation in PLM, I wanted to come with the idea of “small PLM”.
Remember when Direct Modeling was rare. Seriously, more than five years ago, the modeling approach was pretty much relegated to being delivered to market by much smaller software providers. I'll never remember a conversation I had with a head of product management at one of the largest CAD software providers. "That war was fought, and feature-based modeling won a long time ago", he had said to me.
It was long time since I talked about Google and PLM. Probably, it was too long. Yesterday night, I got a tweet message Simon Floyd of Microsoft (@floydinnovation) suggesting me the following next blog title (Google gives up on PLM).
It looks like PTC have launched an Express version of its engineering calculation software, MathCAD. If you’re into the calculations side of things (I’m personally hopeless at mathematics - that’s why I studied drawing and colouring in at University), then it’s worth a good look.
Let's face it, designers and engineers can't lock themselves in their cubes anymore and resurface later with a brand new, fully functioning design. From integrated product teams to the internet, designers everywhere utilize community driven tools to enhance their efforts. Where do you go for inspiration?
One of the things I learned early in this line of work was that you must attend lots of industry events. Most of my colleagues consider it to be a part of the job that they must endure. But not me. I actually look forward to them.
I want to come back to the topic of mobile apps vs. mobile browsers again. Earlier this year I posted PLM: Mobile-Optimized Sites vs. Mobile Apps, which presented some interesting numbers about US mobile apps vs. mobile web consumption. It demonstrated a clear growth of mobile apps usage vs. web.
Belmont is the new company started by several SolidWorks co-founders. A former SolidWorks CFO led one of the deals. Belmont Technology, the new CAD industry start-up created by some of the founders of SolidWorks, has received venture capital funding.
Here's a little old-school knowledge for you kids. ...Waddaya mean why? You never know when you may be hanging out with your friends playing Trivial Pursuit, and this question may come up. ...What? You've never heard of Trivial Pursuit either?? You kids today don't know nothin'... Get off my lawn!
MOST MEDIA ATTENTION in 3D printing currently goes to home 3D printers. MakerBot just released their new Replicator 2 3D printer and opened a MakerBot retail store in New York. A year ago, they received $10M funding mostly from the Foundry Group.
People are collecting things. Beer bottles, matchboxes, car models, etc. As you probably know, I’m collecting PLM definitions. One of the first articles in my collection was this – How to define PLM? with amazing performance of Al Dean.
I’m often asked: Why can’t we use SharePoint as our PLM system? It’s a legitimate question. After all, SharePoint manages documents, has security, web interface, reporting … even a workflow. It smells like a PLM system and you...
Siemens PLM Software acquires Kineo CAM in a move that bolsters its PLM suite with motion optimization, collision avoidance, and path planning capabilities for both product design and manufacturing applications.
What Siemens alluded to us at its two-day Siemens PLM analyst summit in early September 2012 is now official—the vendor has announced that its flagship product lifecycle management (PLM) software Teamcenter is available on the cloud, adding another platform option for Teamcenter customers. Teamcenter on the cloud delivered through an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) model extends Siemens PLM Software’s “platform of choice” strategy.
Open Source Software (OSS) is a wonderful thing. For the last decade, open source changed the world of software development. PLM industry has their own open source rock stars. While I can see less hype around ‘open source’, I keep watching open source initiatives in PLM space.
