White Cheddar Popovers

White Cheddar Popovers | The Man With The Golden Tongs Hands Are In The Oven | Scoop.it

It’s sad to make something just to take a picture of it.  Well I did it. (Speaking of which, scroll down for a link to my shameless cry for help.) I’d never made a popover in my life until these, but they  had been on my list and when I came across this popover pan in a discount store for 9 bucks I was all over that.

Garlic Bread Twists

Garlic Bread Twists | The Man With The Golden Tongs Hands Are In The Oven | Scoop.it

I love bread sticks with soups. I mean, what is better on a cold winter day then a bowl of soup and a soft, garlicky bread stick? Am I right?

I had made a big pot of soup, and sent my kids out to play in the snow. I knew at best I had an hour before they came in cold and hungry. I wanted to make some bread to go with the soup, but I did not want it to take forever. These bread sticks were the fastest, easiest bread ever, and tasted amazing to boot! I loved every bite, and so did the kids.

Cheddar Jalapeño Corn Muffins with Chipotle Honey Butter | The Man With The Golden Tongs Hands Are In The Oven | Scoop.it

I think I just had one of the greatest 4th of July weekends of my life!  Despite hurricane Arthur hitting our coastline and trying to wreak some major havoc, we did considerably well and are very blessed.  I was a nervous wreck, as usual.  I cleaned inside on the morning of the 4th while Taylor got up all of the debris outside… then we headed out on the boat to try to do some patriotic celebrating.

Pretzels and new things

Pretzels and new things | The Man With The Golden Tongs Hands Are In The Oven | Scoop.it

I have a confession to make. I don’t like pretzels. Those little salt-laden little knots that always make their way onto dip platters. I just can’t stand them. They’re too salty and brittle – they dry out my mouth with such speed that it creeps me out.

Homemade Garlic bread – The Olive garden style

Homemade Garlic bread – The Olive garden style | The Man With The Golden Tongs Hands Are In The Oven | Scoop.it

Is there anyone who doesn’t like garlic bread?. I don’t think so. Okay, maybe a teeny tiny population. But there is truly something about this which makes it so irresistible. How many of you go to olive garden for their bread or red lobster for their famous cheddar bay biscuits. I do and I am so much in love with both.

So my madeleine pan has been staring at my face since the day I got it. What actually got me to buy this specialty pan (which I usually am not a fan of) was my “need” to have madeleines.  The only other time the pan was used, it was to make shortcakes..these ones, for those who haven’t already seen them.

Mini Lemon Oreo Cheesecake

Mini Lemon Oreo Cheesecake | The Man With The Golden Tongs Hands Are In The Oven | Scoop.it
Hi friends! Ok – so have you TRIED the new Lemon Oreos? I have to be honest, I haven’t been the hugest fan of all the new flavors out there. I have dabbled in Candy Dipped Golden Oreos and ok, those were really good. And yes, the Birthday Cake Oreos are also pretty tasty, but nothing quite beat that chocolate original. Maybe until now. The Lemon Oreos are divine. DIVINE. So of course you have to be a fan of all things lemon, but I am so that works out just fine for me. And after eating a few in my favorite fashion (with a glass of milk), I had an AHA moment – Lemon Oreo Cheesecake! Yes, perfect. And that’s just what I’ve made, in a mini cupcake style.

Mini Cherry Pies - italicana kitchen

Mini Cherry Pies - italicana kitchen | The Man With The Golden Tongs Hands Are In The Oven | Scoop.it
I am so behind! I made these delicious mini cherry pies a few weeks ago and have yet to write about them. Where does the time go? Before too long cherries will be out of season and I’ll have to update the recipe with mini apple pies. Speaking of which, that’s not a bad idea. I’ll have to add it to my list. Although I haven’t tested their baking times, you could experiment with any kind of fruit filling :: ripieno di frutta like blueberries, apples, peaches or rhubarb. If you do use another filling, let me know how they turn out and if you needed to adjust the baking time.

Mini Focaccia

Mini Focaccia | The Man With The Golden Tongs Hands Are In The Oven | Scoop.it

These mini focacce go perfectly well with Italian starters, such as cheese, cold cuts and much more. One of my favorites is homemade pancetta - the Italian version of bacon. My parents made the piece that you can see below. It has been cured with salt and then covered with spicy ground red pepper. So tasty!! We use it for carbonara (the pasta dish made with bacon, eggs and cheese), or we eat it like that with bread. Then you can also see another one of my favorites: the salame felino. If you enjoy eating sausages made of pork, this one here is a must-try! It’s one out of many other extraordinary specialties of the Parma region.

Tomato Rosemary Focaccia

Tomato Rosemary Focaccia | The Man With The Golden Tongs Hands Are In The Oven | Scoop.it

Before we get started, let’s just get one thing straight. Focaccia has three Cs, first one and then two: F-O-C-A-C-C-I-A. It’s not foccaccia, it’s not foccacia, it’s focaccia.

This isn’t an admonition on you, anyone who’s reading this, it’s on me. Fingers, be trained. Please stop making up words as you type. Thanks.

Hawaiian sweet rolls?  I’ve crawled out from under my rock home again and discovered another food I’ve never tried – or even heard of!  I’m so deprived you guys!  I kept seeing hints of these mythical sweet rolls all over the web.  Fluffy rolls consisting of pineapple and brown sugar.   I could spend hours and hours just discovering things on my laptop.  But oh, hi kids and husband!  I’ll be back for you laptop.

On the other hand I miss the pineapples in Sierra Leone – they would suddenly appear in the market as the season came. And there would be pineapple sellers, with ready-peeled slices on their heads, which you’d just be able to lean out of the car, hand over a some cash and have some sweet, warm, fresh pineapple.

Brown Sugar Grilled Peaches with Ricotta, Honey and Crispy Prosciutto

Brown Sugar Grilled Peaches with Ricotta, Honey and Crispy Prosciutto | The Man With The Golden Tongs Hands Are In The Oven | Scoop.it
For some odd reason, anytime I picture myself eating peaches, I’m always barefoot in the midst of a scorching hot August day, taking a bite ever-so-carefully to avoid that juice down the face, juice down the arm drip that perfectly ripe peaches tend to do. It doesn’t usually happen that way, but one or two times per summer, I’m pleasantly surprised when the juiciest of juicy peaches finds their way into my kitchen. These few and far between kind of peaches don’t need to be thrown into a pie, they don’t need copious amounts of butter or sugar to enhance their natural sweetness, and they definitely don’t require you to nearly break off a tooth by merely taking a bite.
