Cendrine Marrouat these mistakes are so common. I do a lot of LinkedIn training and when people realise that you have to also be 'social' on LinkedIn, they get it and embrace it. Thank you.

Google Plus is the No. 2 Social Network | Social Media Today

Google Plus is the No. 2 Social Network | Social Media Today | Self Promotion | Scoop.it

A new study by Burst Media concludes that one-quarter of Internet users use Google+, placing it squarely in the #2 position for social networks. The data were from a self-reported study in March 2013, with a margin of error of +/- 1.9%. Which sounds rather compelling until you realize that Nielsen did a similar study in the same time-frame which determined that Google was smaller than Twitter (and users spend less than 7 minutes per month on G+).

How To Improve SEO with Link Building and Social Media

How To Improve SEO with Link Building and Social Media | Self Promotion | Scoop.it

If you were under the impression that building links on social media would be quick, automated and easy, now is the time to shed the illusion. This is a time-consuming, painstaking process.

We all expected that computers would make our jobs easier and faster through automation. Now the time we saved must be spent on relationship building. It does pay off in the end.

Successful link building requires a clear understanding of Google’s criteria for a high PageRank.

Sites are rewarded for good, original content and what Google views as “natural” link development.

What Types of Content Actually Drive Leads? | Social Media Today

What Types of Content Actually Drive Leads? | Social Media Today | Self Promotion | Scoop.it

It all starts with understanding your target audience or your target persona(s), and reaching them through the content channels that appeal to them most. And by doing that you can keep in mind following ideas:

Understand Your Lead Source

If the primary goal of content marketing is to drive leads, then make sure you know where your leads are coming from. If you’re driving more leads from your blog content than your webinar landing page, focus more on blog content.

Leads Are Great – Revenue is Real

The reality is that it doesn’t matter how many leads you have if you can’t effectively convert them to customers. Leads are a good early indicator of channel effectiveness, but ultimately content marketing ROI needs to be based on customers and revenue – not leads.

Content Should Be Viral

Social media has become the most prominent delivery mechanism for content marketing. Often your content assets can only go as far as your social reach. If your Twitter following is full of fake accounts, all you have is a big, fake, vain follower number. If you have a real following, you’ll have an audience of influencers and advocates who will share and create conversations around your content. That’s virality for you! Measure which types of content tend to go viral.

Work With The Resources You Have

You may come to understand which types of content drive more leads and conversions for your business, but another factor to consider is the time and money that goes into different types of content. So, depending on the resources available to you as a marketer, focus your efforts on producing content that you know to be effective.

Sure, you could quit using your social sites altogether — but then you’d be, well, bored and lonely. Science may someday shed more light on social media stress, but in the meantime, we've gathered the most common problems associated with popular social networks so that you know what to watch out for.

3 tips:

Step back and consider which sites are most satisfying. You don't have to use them all. For instance, if you like posting to Instagram, your photos will automatically post to Facebook, which means you can continue on Facebook without feeling anxious about your friends' photos or activities.

If you're anxious about your posts being unfavorably compared to others’, consider limiting your viewers to a close circle of friends on Google+ or Facebook. On Pinterest, you can make private boards to keep the photos to yourself or a few friends. On Instagram, you can set your account to private, which means you must approve followers.

Feel free to lurk. While lurking sounds somewhat creepy, it doesn't have to be. A lurker is just a name for an Internet observer. You can read all the tweets on Twitter you'd like, as well as any of the thousands of topics on Reddit, without posting yourself.

Everyone feels insecure at times. Take the advice of a socially savvy teen, "You're comparing your worst with everybody else's best."
