Matthew Baird Stoughton's insight:

Matthew Baird of Stoughton knows how to inspire you to get fit and get moving. He suggests, “Use different muscles every day. You won’t be so sore that you will want to quit and you won’t get bored. The secret to staying with a fitness program is variety. I try to play two or three different sports at a time so I am always challenged.” Matthew Baird of Stoughton believes that most people will give up on a fitness routine after a few sessions because they are not challenged. Matthew Baird of Stoughton played golf in college and found that peaceful enough to quiet his mind and clear his head. He also played football and hockey in college, which gave his muscles the kind of workouts that they needed. You are giving yourself the gift of health that will last you a lifetime. Matthew Baird of Stoughton reminds us that we owe it to ourselves and those who love us to take care of ourselves.

Matthew Baird of Stoughton knows that the key to sticking with a fitness routine is to not have it become routine. Matthew Baird of Stoughton says, “You need to mix it up. Get out there and try new things. Roller blade, take up karate, even roller derby. Just get moving.” Matthew Baird of Stoughton can always be found trying out new sports and switching up his workouts. Matthew Baird of Stoughton believes that it doesn’t matter so much what you do but that you have to do something.

Matthew Baird Stoughton's insight:

Matthew Baird of Stoughton is proud to be a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Matthew Baird of Stoughton credits the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity with instilling in him strong values. He has great respect for the philosophies that guide the fraternity. Matthew Baird of Stoughton believes that Sigma Phi Epsilon is truly unique among fraternities in the Greek system. "When I first started thinking about joining a fraternity I spent some time researching the different options available on campus. Sigma Phi Epsilon really stood out among all the choices. I couldn't be more pleased with my decision to join Sigma Phi Epsilon," says Matthew Baird of Stoughton.

Matthew Baird of Stoughton notes that in the early 1990's the leadership of  Sigma Phi Epsilon observed many troubling trends associated with the Greek fraternity system. Hazing rituals associated with joining a fraternity were sometimes out of control and students were being harmed. Alcohol and substance abuse issues were also prevalent in some fraternities. The leadership at Sigma Phi Epsilon made the conscious decision to address these issues head on. Matthew Baird of Stoughton remarks that the fraternity actively worked with college administrators to establish a zero tolerance policy for the hazing of potential members. The leadership of Sigma Phi Epsilon was so appalled by these practices that they abolished pledging all together and now members are accepted on a year round basis.

Sigma Phi Epsilon is concerned with instilling in its members strong values and leadership skills. Sigma Phi Epsilon takes great pride in offering many leadership opportunities to its members. "Members are encouraged to become effective and dynamic leaders. There are many opportunities for leadership within the fraternity. The executive board gives undergraduate students an opportunity to take an active role in the structure of their fraternity," says Matthew Baird of Stoughton.

The fraternity also encourages students to participate in philanthropic acts. Members of the fraternity often work together to organize fundraisers for local charities and non-profits. Many Sigma Phi Epsilon members also devote their personal time to assisting in volunteer projects according to Matthew Baird of Stoughton. Matthew Baird of Stoughton is very proud to be a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Matthew Baird of Stoughton Discusses Technology’s Impact on Our Culture

Does technology bring us closer or divide us? Is technology making our generation less able to connect with people on a personal level? These are the questions that Matthew Baird of Stoughton addresses.

Matthew Baird Stoughton's insight:

Matthew Baird of Stoughton believes that technology has a positive impact on our culture. Even with the millions of teens who seem to get lost in the world of the internet, Matthew Baird of Stoughton can see how having the skills to navigate in the technological world can translate to advanced social skills in the real world.

When you see people sitting at the same table staring at their phones rather than talking to each other, you may think they are disconnected from the real world. While many people see this as a lack of social skills, Matthew Baird of Stoughton sees this as a larger definition of social skills. With so much business and relationship building going on online you have to have the skills to be able to socialize without being face to face with someone. Being able to size a person up from their online identity is becoming more important in many ways than being able to size someone up in person. Many relationships and jobs start online, so you need to have the skills to be able to be social from behind your keyboard.

Matthew Baird of Stoughton has become an expert at socializing and building relationships online. While using the internet to stay connected to people that he met in college and in business, Matthew Baird of Stoughton is also using it to search out new opportunities. Employers are expecting their new employees to be technologically advanced and able to interact online in a professional way with people that they have never met. Matthew Baird of Stoughton sees this as the new frontier of employment. “So many people are now getting jobs who have never set foot in the same building or even in the same state. Employers can size you up quickly from your profile and what information about you is online.” The next time that you see someone with their head buried in their smartphone, Matthew Baird of Stoughton wants you to realize that they are socializing in the newest form and are communicating in a bigger world than we have ever been a part of.
