Well, there we go ladies and gentlemen. After much anticipation, Samsung's Galaxy Gear is here, and, at first glance, it's not quite as strange as some earlier reports made it out to be.
I'm really not sold on the idea of Smartwatches, and there's something slightly desparate about Samsung rushing to break the marketplace before Apple (although sony already entered the space aaaaaaggggggeeeeesss ago). I can't see the benefit to the user, apart from being able to tell when you have a call or an SMS, but really we all know that the actual comms function of our phones plays second tier to the other functions (playing games, updating facebook etc).
I guess I won't know until I can try one, but for developers this doesn't seem to add anything to the overall hardware mix, and if there's no way for us (as developers) to work with the watch, then it's going to die a death very quickly. Users expect their devices to be kept up to date, personalised, and it doesn't look this will be possible.
I also wonder if this is a massive ruse by Apple, egging Samsung into entering a marketplace they don't believe will take off, and in the mean time putting all their efforts in to making the iPhone 6 completely astonishing.

A well written article looking into some of the potenital reasons why developers release across iOS first, and Android later (if at all). I think for teams like Matmi, where possible, we look to release across both platforms at the same time, particularly for our brand campaigns. However for small teams there may need to be a lag because of resource. Piracy is another issue though, and Google could really do with figuring out how to protect the IP of the developers who are championing their platform.
At the end of the day, dev teams small or large, are business' and business' need to turn a profit in order to survive. If that profit simply isn't possible because of piracy then it's not a sustainable business model, hence the shift to freemium. But are we seeing a backlash against freemium.
The marketplace is shifting and changing quickly, and I think we'll see different models appear before too long. HTML5 really coming out of its shell maybe?

With the rise of social media comes the rise of the consumer fight back. Too long compnies have felt untouchable. The phrase may be "The customer is always right", but all too often this only lasts until the customer has actually bought your product, then they ucan go whistle.
This use of paid for Social Media in the form of a promoted tweet will see a rise in customers hitting back in this way. And you can bet that Hasan's tweet was a lot more damaging than BA's paid for tweets are positive.
