Imagine a fascinating complex in the middle of nature, completely designed to 'live' science and art. That's Nesin Mathematics Village.
Margarita Parra's insight:
"The Nesin Mathematics Village is completely designed to stay focus on the beauty of mathematics, without any factors that could prevent concentration." Let's go there!

Einstein’s First Proof

Einstein’s First Proof | Math, technology and learning | Scoop.it
Steven Strogatz offers a walk-through of Albert Einstein’s childhood proof of the Pythagorean theorem, and what it shows about his thinking on relativity.
Margarita Parra's insight:
"Einstein became particularly enamored of the Pythagorean theorem and—“after much effort,” he noted in the Saturday Review—he wrote his own mathematical proof of it."

what is quantum computing? How does it work and what are its main strenghts? Find out more with our exprt Ahmed Banafa
Margarita Parra's insight:
"The field of quantum computing was initiated by the work of Paul Benioff and Yuri Manin in 1980,  Richard Feynman in 1982, and David Deutsch in 1985. A quantum computer with spins as quantum bits was also formulated for use as a quantum space–time in 1968."

How Benoit Mandelbrot Discovered Fractals: A Short Film by Errol Morris

How Benoit Mandelbrot Discovered Fractals: A Short Film by Errol Morris | Math, technology and learning | Scoop.it
Documentary filmmaker Errol Morris talked with Benoit Mandelbrot about the origins of fractals in 2010, only 19 days before the mathematician's death. You can watch the short film online.
Margarita Parra's insight:
"Even if you know little of mathematics, you probably have some awareness of fractals. You’ve almost certainly heard them invoked, correctly or otherwise, to describe things that look or act the same at the large scale as they do at the small. You may even know the name Benoit Mandelbrot, the much-laureled Polish-French-American “father of fractal geometry.” Hard science-fiction titan Arthur C. Clarke called his eponymous set of mathematical points “one of the most astonishing discoveries in the entire history of mathematics.” Nassim Nicholas Taleb, the famously discriminating author of The Black Swan, called him “the only person for whom I have had intellectual respect.”"

The physiology and habitat of the last universal common<br/> ancestor | Math, technology and learning | Scoop.it
A phylogenetic approach was used to illuminate the physiology of the last universal common ancestor, supporting the theory that LUCA was an H2-dependent autotroph in a hydrothermal setting rich in hydrogen, carbon dioxide and iron.
Margarita Parra's insight:

How play leads to great inventions

How play leads to great inventions | Math, technology and learning | Scoop.it
Necessity is the mother of invention, right? Well, not always. Steven Johnson shows us how some of the most transformative ideas and technologies, like the computer, didn't emerge out of necessity at all but instead from the strange delight of play. Share this captivating, illustrated exploration of the history of invention. Turns out, you'll find the future wherever people are having the most fun.

solid geometry.
Margarita Parra's insight:
"I'm creating this version of Euclid’s Elements for a couple of reasons. The main one is to rekindle an interest in the Elements, and the web is a great way to do that. Another reason is to show how Java applets can be used to illustrate geometry. That also helps to bring the Elements alive."

Richard Feynman on the Role of Scientific Culture in Modern Society

Richard Feynman on the Role of Scientific Culture in Modern Society | Math, technology and learning | Scoop.it
"In order to make progress, one must leave the door to the unknown ajar – ajar only."
Margarita Parra's insight:
"We are all saddened when we look at the world and see what few accomplishments we have made, compared to what we feel are the potentialities of human beings. People in the past, in the nightmare of their times, had dreams for the future. And now that the future has materialized we see that in many ways the dreams have been surpassed, but in still more ways many of our dreams of today are very much the dreams of people of the past."
