MoMA | Cindy Sherman and John Waters: A Conversation...Blah blah blah JW: As you mentioned, you’re going to be known forever for the Untitled Film Stills. I’ve always said that people don’t remember movies; they remember the stills. And I think you really captured that quality. But why do you think they’re so iconic?

Jon Rafman is a Canadian artist and filmmaker based in Montreal. He recently gave a talk about his work entitled “In Search of the Virtual Sublime” at the Gaité Lyrique, a new space devoted to digital culture in Paris. I met up with Jon in a café near the Jardin du Luxembourg to discuss Google Street View, street photography, the cyberflâneur and what the future looks like.

Lavatory Self-Portraits in the Flemish Style. A very amusing way to pass the time. She deserves instant recognition. "While in the lavatory on a domestic flight in March 2010, I spontaneously put a tissue paper toilet cover seat cover over my head and took a picture in the mirror. The image evoked 15th-century Flemish portraiture."
