How to Turn Your Classroom into an Idea Factory

How to Turn Your Classroom into an Idea Factory | Master Leren & Innoveren | Scoop.it

"How can we prepare today’s students to become tomorrow’s innovators? It’s an urgent challenge, repeated by President Obama, corporate CEOs, and global education experts like Yong Zhao and Tony Wagner. Virtually every discussion of 21st-century learning puts innovation and its close cousin, creativity, atop the list of skills students must have for the future."

Volwassenen regeren vanuit hun gevangenissen en trachten aan te tonen dat die plek het beste uitgangspunt voor vooruitgang en ontwikkeling biedt.
Waarom controle zoeken/houden?

Connected Learning Manifesto for Connected Educator Month

Connected Learning Manifesto for Connected Educator Month | Master Leren & Innoveren | Scoop.it

"A revolution in technology has transformed the way we can find each other, interact, and collaborate to create knowledge as connected learners." (Connected Learning Manifesto - http://plpnetwork.com/2012/07/23/connected-learning-manifesto/)

Justin Marquis wrote suggestions to also be added to the Manifesto and to further the discussion about the impact of connected learning. He focused on these topics:
- Connectivity/Collaboration
- Empowerment/Self-Directed Learning
- Creativity/Innovation
- Diversity/Breaking Down Boundaries
- Self-Awareness/Reflection
- Lifelong Learning

Really agree with the author’s statement: “Connected Learning helps develop the literacy skills necessary to survive in a hi-tech world.”

What Do Emotions Have to Do with Learning?

What Do Emotions Have to Do with Learning? | Master Leren & Innoveren | Scoop.it
"When parents and teachers consider how children learn, it’s usually the intellectual aspects of the activity they have in mind. Sidney D’Mello would like to change that. The University of Notre Dame psychologist has been studying the role of feelings in learning for close to a decade, and he has concluded that complex learning is almost inevitably “an emotionally charged experience,” as he wrote in a paper published in the journal Learning and Instruction earlier this year."

Learning in a Digital Age: The myth and the reality Steve Wheeler

"In Learning in a Digital Age: The Myth and the Reality, I present a number of widespread beliefs about elearning, and challenge the provenance, reasoning and application of these theories. Learning styles, digital natives and immigrants theory, and the arguments that you cannot personalise learning in large organisations; or that SMS txting is dumbing down language; are all scrutinised and challenged."

Learning with 'e's: Bloom reheated

Learning with 'e's: Bloom reheated | Master Leren & Innoveren | Scoop.it

"In an age of digital media, where learners create, remix and share their own content, an overhaul of Bloom's Cognitive Taxonomy was long overdue. Yesterday I posted a critique of Bloom's Cognitive Taxonomy and argued that it is outmoded in the digital age. Unfortunately, Lorin Anderson's revised model (2001 in conjunction with Krathwohl) of the taxonomy is not as great an improvement on the original model as its adherents might claim."

How to get students to participate in Online Discussions…

How to get students to participate in Online Discussions… | Master Leren & Innoveren | Scoop.it

Students’ participation in online discussions is central in online learning courses as it contributes to a participative and meaningful instruction where learners build their knowledge in a constructive way with instructors, colleagues, informal sources and by reflecting upon the process.

Debbie Morrison is posting a triplet series on how to create effective discussions in an online learning environment. In part I she presents components which make online discussions effective, namely:

1.  A solid course design

2.  Guidelines and expectations for students

3.  Well constructed topics/questions

4.  The existence of a skilled facilitator or moderator

5.  An assessment component

Teachers Working with Teachers: Reform through Collaboration and Continuity of Leadership (Part 1)

"Want to give a “no excuses” reformer a stroke? Suggest that teachers working together on a daily basis have a better shot at improving teaching and learning than the highly marketed structural changes of standards-based testing and accountability, Common Core standards, more charter schools, and evaluating educator performance through student scores."

Recognizing children as vital contributors to culture, Alise shares how children's unfettered perceptions have the power to jump-start the adult mind with refreshing and novel points of view."

What Type of Learner Are You? (And Why It Doesn't Matter) | Psychology Today

What Type of Learner Are You? (And Why It Doesn't Matter) | Psychology Today | Master Leren & Innoveren | Scoop.it

"As an educator, I often come across the concept of "learning styles." Briefly, this refers to the idea that different people learn in different ways. Concerned students will often remark that they didn't do well on a given exam because they are "visual learners," while parents will often note that their child is a "motor learner," an "aural learner," or perhaps an "intuitive learner." The implicit message behind these labels is that educators need to match their method of instruction to match the style of the student, so as to maximize the student's learning and performance. The flip side of this argument, of course, is that if the student learns or performs poorly, some of it may have to do with a mismatch between the student's style and the method of instruction."

Why We Stop Learning: The Paradox of Expertise | Psychology Today

Why We Stop Learning: The Paradox of Expertise | Psychology Today | Master Leren & Innoveren | Scoop.it

"Most of us are lucky enough to start life out as learners and to stay active learners until we are into young adulthood. We look at our children and know that their primary job in life is to grow, develop, and learn. There is an entire world of history, grammar, science, and math for them to absorb. Childen begin as empty vessels meant to gorge themselves on this feast of knowledge.

Alas, at some point we change. We stop learning. We move from being learners to being knowers."
