Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious: Time to create transmedia

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious: Time to create transmedia | #CentroTransmediático en Ágoras Digitales | Scoop.it

On Wednesday the research company Latitude released a pretty interesting study called The Future Of Storytelling. I highly recommend it as essential reading, and I’m thoroughly looking forward to the second and last instalment in the study series.

There are a lot of good points in the study, and in my mind they all clearly point to one thing. ”Transmedia” might have been a buzzword for a while. It probably still is, in the minds of many. But the term is of infinitely lesser importance; of greater importane is the fact that the audience – anyone we wish to target with our content – is already inherently geared towards transmedia.

Alexis Niki's curator insight, July 24, 2013 5:32 AM

Favorite insight from author Simon Staffans: "There’s no contest here, at least not for me. Story is everything when it comes to transmedia. Is it a compelling and immersive story that has the weight and the bones to stretch to different platforms? Does it have a story world already in place, or is it easily conceivable how such a world could be designed and developed? Are the protagonists and antagonists (and side characters) suitable for a deeper mythology? Is it possible to sense the existence of a narrative superstructure somewhere along the road? If a project’s Story supports transmedia, you’re halfway there. If it doesn’t, don’t bother."

Marco Bertolini's curator insight, July 24, 2013 6:28 AM

Même si le concept de tranmédia est loin d'être neuf, son utilisation ne va pas de soi.  Quand et pourquoi l'utiliser ?  Quelques réflexions d'un spécialiste.

Jenkins explains how "transmedia encourages additive comphrension."

'Like any other kind of storytelling, transmedia is something which can be done well or badly. You can be attentive to the possibilities of expanding a story in new directions or you can simply slap a logo on something and pretend like it’s part of the same franchise. Transmedia can be enriching or exploitative, can be motivated by the crudest of economic motives or shaped by the most cutting edge learning science. But, when transmedia is done well, it creates a deeply engaging, immersive experience, which multiplies the number of learning opportunities"

Children's Technology Review » Is There a Transmedia Generation Gap? #classtransmedia #TFM | #CentroTransmediático en Ágoras Digitales | Scoop.it

I noticed at the recent Children’s Media Conference in England, however, that conversations about transmedia seemed to have a new, more organic and natural flow to them. These presentations and discussions came from experts across mediums – publishing, broadcasting, games, virtual worlds, mobile media – and in sessions with varied themes – creative content, audience engagement, financial models. Their approach bespoke a coherent development process, in which pieces of the story were parceled out to the appropriate platforms from the start, rather than beginning from one device as the omphalos and tacking on other pieces.
