Great presentation recognising that the training paradigm is past its sell by date!
Professors at Northwestern University are training students to build online identities that can advance their academic and professional careers.
"Because a 2-year-old can swipe their finger on an iPad, suddenly every young person, every child, is just universally knowledgeable about digital media," she says. "But there is so much more to using digital media than turning it on or starting an app."
Siempre he dicho que lo de los nativos digitales era un cuento chino, ahora, documentado.
At one time in the not so distant past there were no cell phones. And then everything changed at a rate faster than the speed of amending a student handbook. I can distinctly remember the first time one of my 8th grade students brought a cell phone to school. It really wasn’t that big of a deal, more of a novelty really. I mean one student with a cell phone had next to no bearing on our day to day school operations. But then a second student brought a cell phone.

"Most students need all the help they can get when it comes to planning big projects. Here’s a list of apps that can help them stay organized when they’re working on group presentations, research papers or other big tasks that might take a little extra energy to keep everything together."
We know the relationship between feedback and achievement is strong. What about the relationship between feedback, personalization and, hence, motivation? The recently-released Gallup poll on Ameri...
The recently-released Gallup poll on American education in which hundreds of thousands students and teachers were polled is quite revealing. Personalized learning and feedback – and, more specifically, personal recognition for work well done – matters greatly:
At the Blended Learning Infographic: A Disruptive Innovation, your will find out what blended learning is, why it's spreading, and how it works in real and virtual classrooms.

“We can’t turn back,” Wolf said. “We should be simultaneously reading to children from books, giving them print, helping them learn this slower mode, and at the same time steadily increasing their immersion into the technological, digital age. It’s both. We have to ask the question: What do we want to preserve?”
Humans seem to be developing digital brains with new circuits for skimming through the torrent of information online.

This report introduces connected learning, a promising educational approach that uses digital media to engage students’ interests and instill deeper learning skills, such as communication, collaboration, and critical thinking. The report lists four elements constituting connected learning’s emphasis on bridging school, popular culture, home, and the community to create an environment in which students engage in and take responsibility for their learning.
Due to invention of new devices and internet access, it should the future and open learning.
The emphasis on developing deeper learning skills in this is helpful.
This report focuses on school-age learners, but the emphasis on deeper learning skills, such as communication, collaboration, and critical thinking is definitely applicable to professional development.
Is a MOOC really a course? http://t.co/6uGzCAXp4M #connectivism #informallearning
Are we using the right metrics to evaluate the success of MOOCs?
"Stephen Downes hits the nail on the head in a new post about this issue, Like reading a newspaper. If we compare a regular course to a book which must be read from cover to cover then a MOOC is more like a newspaper that you read very selectively. . . Downes suggests that the connectivist MOOCs he's associated with offer learners a range of learning paths and a flexibility in approach that is unlike a regular course."
Then came Heutagogy advocating principles of self-determined learning: “A heutagogical learning environment facilitates the development of capable learners and emphasizes both the development of learner competencies as well as development of the learner’s capability and capacity to learn" (Ashton and Newman, 2006; Hase and Kenyon, 2000). Heutagogy applies a holistic approach to developing learner capabilities, with learning as an active and proactive process, and learners serving as “the major agent in their own learning, which occurs as a result of personal experiences” (Hase & Kenyon, 2007, p. 112).
De la Andragogía a la Heutagogía: aprendizaje adulto autodirigido.
Learning, when it happens, is about personal meaning and connection. There is a place for self-direction, but complexity and chaos theory also point out the interconnected nature of the universe and this applies to learning. We cannot live and learn on and as islands.
"Mobile learning is becoming increasingly popular in the workplace.

Sorprendente, pero esperado. En todo el mundo debemos estar igual.
By following the example of the publishing industry and finding new ways for their resources to be used, MOOC providers can begin to shape a more sustainable business model.
What’s the difference between disruptive tech and that of emergent or innovative technology?
... The infographic below (originally created by Upside Learning) presents some very compelling facts about the shift to mobile learning in the workplace, and the opportunity that is there for organizations that take action...
Learning Innovations and Learning Quality: The two main objectives to foster improvements in learning, education and training and the two core ingredients for learning success and impact. They are focused by many different theories and diverse practices. And they are more and more required due the increasing speed of globalization and changes in communities, economies, technologies and societies worldwide.
This book demonstrates the need for combining learning innovations and learning quality from various perspectives: The scientific articles address the different ways of formal, non-formal and informal learning and all the educational sectors from kindergarten, school, university to lifelong learning.

Launched last October, European MOOC platform iversity.org has now reached nearly 500,000 enrollments in its 28 massive open online courses.
The European MOOC platform iversity.org is running a pilot in offering certification to students on the basis of exams, which they sit in various centres in Germany. It's a nice way of widening participation in higher education, but I'm not sure of the validity of exams in testing knowledge, and wonder whether these MOOCs will just end up supporting learners in 'learning for the test'?
