The MOOC platform’s accommodations for learners with disabilities were the subject of a lawsuit against Harvard and MIT.

The Department of Justice alleged the edX site was not fully accessible to students with certain disabilities. The settlement requires edX to make its online operations fully accessible within 18 months and also allows for partner universities to make their own content accessible in the following 18 months

FutureLearn stats: Since the first course went live 12 months ago, FutureLearn has launched 133 courses. The most popular, Exploring English: Language and Culture, created by the British Council, had around 122,000 people sign up. In total, there have been 1.4 million course sign ups by more than 650,000 learners.

Coursera wants to accelerate its global expansion, so it went out and raised some more cash. The online education service has raised $49.5 million in the first closing of its Series C round. The company expects to raise an additional $10.5 million by this fall to bring its total to $60 million.

MOOCs may not 'revolutionise' education, but they definitely seem to have have the potential for making better use of technology in order to increase the reach of education. If only one could see past the superfluous promises  made by the media on behalf of MOOCS.
