Insider News North West – Severfield-Rowen to axe Bolton staff

Severfield-Rowen has revealed it plans to cut almost 100 jobs in the North West and Midlands as part of the continuing restructuring of the newly formed Severfield-Watson Structures business.

An Essex construction company has been fined for putting workers at risk after neglecting to check and maintain a potentially dangerous piece of lifting equipment.

It is a legal requirement to check such equipment at least once a year, yet the truck, used to move heavy steel fabrications, was kept in continuous use for well over a year despite showing obvious signs of disrepair.

Seddon Construction has been chosen by Great Places Housing Group to build two developments in Bolton together worth more than £10m to the contractor.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change data, which was released yesterday but only provides updated figures for 2011, shows the number of fuel poor households across the UK fell from 4.75 million in 2010 to 4.5 million in 2011.
