Enterprise Search - is there still a market!?

Sure it is. Interesting view on a market that changed a lot in the last years.

But the question is: is search still enough? What about going the next step? Whenever real Enterprise Search is needed, knowledgeworkers or reasearchers are involved. Their demand to work upon and with granular fragments of information increases. So things like custome publishing become critical. Given that Enterprise Search may have to change its scope, right!? I've looked at dozens of applications of big data technology and most include more than search & discovery. Almost always, there seems to be an important requirement tied to data consolidation. In some cases, this includes data which already exists in the company. In other cases, it's social media that, when used effectively, provides high value information that informs a community of visitors. The BBC Olympics website is a prime example. We are about to see an explosion in New Information Products that include real time updates of content, analytic dashboards and more. Businesses are sitting on valuable content which can be used to create new revenue streams while also improving the customer experience. In some cases, these can be internal use content products serving the needs of research departments. But in many cases, they will be new content products for consumers interested in a specific topic. Big data, including massive amounts of unstructured data, will act as the fuel for powerful big data engines like MarkLogic's Enterprise NoSQL database.
