Got a Boring Product? Make a NSFW Infomercial

Got a Boring Product? Make a NSFW Infomercial | MarketingHits | Scoop.it
With useful but unsexy products, presentation is everything. Until now I thought Dollar Shave Club had the lock on irreverent commercials, but Schticky—whose namesake product is an arguably boring reusable lint roller with a business end made from silicone—availed themselves of the services of motormouthed pitch man Vince Offer. Their original commercial, from earlier in the year, might not best Dollar Shave Club's:

Twitter Background Design How-To and Best Practices

Twitter Background Design How-To and Best Practices | MarketingHits | Scoop.it
Check out this overview of best practices to stand out from the crowd with your Twitter theme and follow the tutorial to create your own profile from scratch.

With Twitter quickly becoming the hottest site to be seen on, everyone wants to stand out from the crowd. There has already been a range of quality designs showcased on various sites, which has shown an emergence of trends such as the ‘sidebar’. Let’s take a look at some of the best practices around Twitter background design and get to work creating our own.

We all recognise the default blue Twitter background right? It’s not a bad design, it’s clean and trendy but it doesn’t stand out when the majority of Twitter users also have the same look. Furthermore, if you’re keen to achieve more followers, removing this background would probably help out by showing that you’re an active user, or if you’re tweeting on behalf of your company or service, it helps prove that you’re not a spammer.

Generally speaking, there are three main approaches when it comes to creating your Twitter background (other than a boring solid colour!):

The World’s First ‘Wikipedia Town’ - Great idea! #qrcode | MarketingHits | Scoop.it
In a six-month collaboration project with Wikipedia, Welsh country town Monmouth is now the world’s first ‘Wikipedia town’.

The project—which is jointly funded by Monmouthshire City Council and Wikipedia UK—involves installing 1,000 over QR codes or ‘QRpedia codes’ onto every school, public building and monument in the town, and every exhibit in the town’s museum.

When the QRpedia codes were scanned by with a smartphone—it directs users to Wikipedia articles.

Visitors can even get a virtual tour of the town by using Wikipedia’s mobile app.

The purpose of this project is to raise the town’s profile and provide a unique visitor experience.

In order to support this project, free public Wi-Fi has also been set up throughout the town to allow visitors to connect online.

Will the world be ‘Wikipedia-ed’ in the future?

Vyclone: This collaborative video app is just what citizen journalists ordered

Vyclone: This collaborative video app is just what citizen journalists ordered | MarketingHits | Scoop.it

Excerpted from the article:

"Vyclone is a free iOS app (UK-only for now), that professes to let you “Record life from all angles” – in short, it lets users collaborate from different locations and perspectives to “co-create, sync and share movies”.

Vyclone lets you upload a clip to its servers, where other users can throw their own shots into the mix to create a crowdsourced movie encompassing, literally, different points-of-view.

Once you’re in you can browse existing videos, or start shooting footage yourself.

It’s worth noting that once you upload a video for the Vyclone-using public to access, others can remix it and do as they please.

You can choose what content you want to share publicly through Vyclone, and whether you want to keep it private between you and your buddies. If you don’t choose ‘public’ or ‘private’, it will default to the former.

A nice little feature is that you can search for movies that have already been created nearby, which obviously lends itself well to event-specific video collaborations.

Once you’re done shooting or remixing the movie with the built-in editing tool, you can choose to broadcast your movie across all the usual social networks.

It’s worth noting that the app is UK-only for now, though as The Guardian notes, a full-scale launch should happen this year. And an Android app is in the works too..."

Content Curation and Its Positive Impacts on Business-to-Business Social Media Marketing

Content Curation and Its Positive Impacts on Business-to-Business Social Media Marketing | MarketingHits | Scoop.it
At the beginning of 2012 I began to notice the phrase, “content curation.”  I liked the phrase and incorporated it into my vocabulary, even though I had pretty much written it off as just another set of buzz words.  Now that the year is nearly halfway through it has become increasingly apparent that this phrase – and activity – has really caught on in the social media world.  Content curation has certainly become an important concept for B2B social media marketers.
