Google Maps now lets you measure distances between two or more points

Google Maps now lets you measure distances between two or more points | MarketingHits | Scoop.it
Google Maps on the desktop has been updated with a new feature that lets you work out the distance between multiple places by plotting your route on the map.

To use the option, you just need to right click anywhere on a map and select ‘Measure Distance’ and then select a destination to see the distance between two points. Additional stops, turns or destinations can be calculated with additional clicks. You can also drag any of your dropped route lines if you want to tweak them a bit or if you want to make them align with actual roads for more accurate route measurement, for example.

LikeManager lets you browse everything you’ve Liked on Facebook

LikeManager lets you browse everything you’ve Liked on Facebook | MarketingHits | Scoop.it
Portuguese start-up ColorElephant has just launched its latest product, LikeMananger, which is a handy Facebook app that provides you with the ability to explore and search the links you’ve Liked on the social networking site.

It works by being authenticated with Facebook and pulling in links you’ve shared, Likes you’ve given to Pages and links your friends have recently shared. These are then processed, and you can then share them on further.

The app can be used for free, but that only gives you a set of 30 Likes and 30 updates a week. However, you can upgrade to a premium package for €1 ($1.36) per month, giving you unlimited Likes and the ability to access more updates.

Growing Your Company Through Customer Referrals

Growing Your Company Through Customer Referrals | MarketingHits | Scoop.it

There is typically two ways potential customers will hear about your business: 1) through calling, advertising, marketing or emailing channels and, 2) customers acting on your behalf to tell people about your business and services. If you compare the two, you’ll notice that when a customer is talking on your business’ behalf, there is a 400% increase in conversions

.

In this webinar, KISSmetrics’ Dan McGaw uses Dropbox as inspiration to discuss ways to optimize growth from referral campaigns. Dropbox went from 100K registered users to 4 million registered users in just 15 months through referral campaigns. That’s 3900% growth! These tips are not only for mid-size businesses though. The average small business gets 60% of its business from referral campaigns.

To make sure everyone is on the same page, Dan defines a referral as the act of referring someone or something for consultation, review, or further action. It’s also known as word of mouth.

When Taxi Terry said to me, “Are you ready for the BEST cab ride of your life?” he established a very high expectation — not only for me, as the customer…but for himself, as well.

  • What kind of expectations are you setting for YOUR customers at the moment of first contact?

(And, not just the initial impression the very first time they encounter you or your business — what’s the first thing they hear from you on EVERY point of contact?  Is it setting a high expectation?)

The Kindle version is already available — and, for the first time in quite a while, I’ve been able to do the audiobook version, as well — it’s available on Audible.com.

Here's Why You Should Take Good Care of Your Customers

Here's Why You Should Take Good Care of Your Customers | MarketingHits | Scoop.it
New research confirms what many marketers have already suspected: It’s harder than ever to attract new customers and retain existing ones.

Competition for customers is heating up — or as London-based Ovum, a global research firm, puts it, "hotting-up." Colloquialisms aside, the fight for customers appears to be kicking into high gear.

And the reason is clear. Customer relationship management (CRM) and e-commerce will be the fastest growing enterprise applications through 2018. According to the global analyst firm’s newly launched software forecasts, customer-engagement systems will be the fastest growing enterprise application between 2013 and 2018.

The French pen maker is collecting handwriting from all over the planet to build a universal typeface. Here's how you can have a hand in the cool experiment.

And that’s why Bic wants you to add your unique handwriting to its ambitious Universal Typeface Experiment. That and we’re pretty sure the ballpoint pen maker also wants you reach for its pens, not its competitors’, the next time you jot something down between tweets and texts. (Yes, people still do actually write from time to time. We think.)

As part a clever, crowdsourced marketing campaign/research endeavor, Bic is collecting writing samples online from people across the globe. The goal: To merge them into a single font.

Businesses are Unprepared for the Internet of Things | MarketingHits | Scoop.it

Much has been made in the past few years about the massive business opportunities that the Internet of Things (IoT) will provide. But capitalizing on this potential is going to be a challenge.

Two recent research reports show that most enterprises are unprepared for the IoT.

Research from Infoblox showed the infrastructure to support the IoT is too weak. And research from Spiceworks found the IoT will put already overburdened networks under unbearable pressure. Combined, the studies suggest that far from being the financial cornucopia it could be, the IoT may in fact buckle enterprise infrastructure.
