I come away thinking there is something missing in apps. Most apps are downloaded and never used. Is there a missing layer in app development? Is there a need for a gamification layer or a leaderboard or something that commands some attention across the ecosystem?
One of the confusing things about mobile may be how decentralized it feels. I was talking to a mobile entrepreneur the other day and when I suggested he needed content marketing on a website to support his app he looked at me like I was speaking Latin (or some other dead language).
This article makes it clear making a living as an app developer is hard, so maybe we need a hybrid app marketer/developer to create the supportive and engaged tribe after the app goes to market since that would seem to be the most important challenge.
Brian's comments: "If you build it, they will come", never worked for a website, why should app builders think they are any different. Marketing comes in many avenues today, app builders need the think outside the app. A look at Angry Birds marketing will shows that its more than just the app.
